^.^ Wierdest thing! I found this song while listening to NPR. They were doing a profile on Metallica and all of the problems the band went through before St. Anger came out. |

^.^ Yes, and that 000350 is basically the big huge growling menace that we all see, but the 0350 and 0330 combo at the beginning is the really sneaky kind of thing that surprises people. Over all, an awesome song. |

^.^ I'm not sure exactly what people are looking for in Metallica. They complain about the supposedly shoddy guitar and drum work, but this is heavy metal we're talking about! People shouldn't worry so much about PRECISION...as long as it breaks ear drums when it's played, lay back and enjoy it. If ya want precision, go check out a marching band. :) |

^.^ Yeah, that ending was the only real bad part about the song. It was going all cool, then it suddenly drops off, and until you get used to that ending, it leaves you wanting more. |

^.^ That would assume that Metallica got political, which they've generally stayed away from. Even songs like One, which was an obvious slam of war in general, never got specific as to single out one party or the other. My question would be in 2012, would you look at the exact same lyrics and say they represent a metaphorical representation of the Democrats and what they will have done to the American people? Where I see perhaps a bit of politics in the song, the lyrics seem to point the finger at all of us "We the People", and perhaps calling us hypocrites. I also buy the idea that it reflects our negative sides, which we all have, and in that case, you could be seeing some very very dark individuals. |

^.^ The intro into the song is kinda sneaky if you listen to it. Here the band is getting all heavy and metal and stuff, then they slide in a soft but ominous sub-melody, then they chug it back up and get into the meat of the song. The song seems to be about all of the problems that hit us all the time, but do ALL of your problems hit you over the head, or do some of them sneak up on ya? |

^.^ In my own intepretation of the song, these two lines ask whether the people around "you" now could have helped you before. |

^.^ There are a couple different interpretations, based on the actual lyrics. Not saying Elle did a bad job, but if the words are different, the meaning is too. Take for instance: You're the brother and the beast You're the friend I knew the *least* Can't you listen to the past Can't you let the *sickness* pass The words in ** are what I hear when I listen to the song, and it has a different meaning then. In the case of Lines 1 & 2, Line 1 clearly sets down a apples and oranges comparison, so "least" in Line 2 matches this pattern. Even though Elle makes sense with "best", it could be that the band is trying to force their meaning into that second line, and breaking the lyrical rhyme at the same time. To find the correct word, listen for the B sound on "best". I don't hear it...then again, my hearing could be going... Lines 3 & 4 are a good pair, and they refer to looking back to a better time. The final lines are repeated, and they seem to suggest to leave things alone, and they will resolve themselves in a good way. I found this group as a result of an NPR profile on them, and this song is probably my favorite, with "You're It" coming in a close second. This particular song came to me while I was in a major depression, and it seemed to suggest a message to someone I knew, saying not to go through with their course of action. |
