Brazil – Au Revoir, Mr. Mercury Lyrics 17 years ago
The bridge is a definite homage to Queen (can't have a song called "Mr. Mercury" and not slip something in there).
"Are you getting existential in your clockwork differential?
Patent Marvel!
Mechanical-Mechanical-MechaniCAL!! (this line is very reminiscent of the harmonies in Bohemian Rhapsody).

Brilliant.

Moros Eros – I Saw the Devil Last Night Lyrics 17 years ago
Man it sucks that they broke up and it's an absolute injustice that nobody knew who they were. This album blows away absolutely everything that's on the radio right now (which is exactly hard to do).

I felt the same way when hearing "Lotus" for the first time. Very Floyd-ish.

Minus the Bear – The Fix Lyrics 17 years ago
"Her hands moved to pull him under for some kind of kiss. As he slides in..."

Sure, it could be about sex... but I've always pictured that he is simply "sliding in" for the kiss that was mentioned on the line before. Also could just mean "sliding in" to the water as she pulled him under. It's not a question of fully understanding it--it's a question of which way you'd like to interpret it, and any interpretation you like best is fine.

Portugal. The Man – AKA M80 The Wolf Lyrics 17 years ago
The brilliance of John's lyrics is that they are artistically vague, which can result in many possible interpretations. The only wrong interpretation is that the lyrics are incomprehensible--this attitude is simply a refusal to think, or the listener actually gave it some thought and was unable to come up with any meaning (in this case, I'm sure the listener would feel inadequate and would trash the band rather than admit their own shortcomings--see 'sou ka' above). John's lyrics border on abstract at times (not nearly as much as Cedric Bixler Zavala's of The Mars Volta), but always remain beautiful and I respect him as a true artist and one of the greatest modern lyricists around.
