I lay on my back in the lake at night In the summertime trying to remember Every last second, every last breath that I spent with you The yellow dotted line, reflected in your eyes You scream as the crickets fly in the open window Please don't cry, love Come on babe, we both know that I'll stay The Virgin Mary lives beside the highway Let's go and see her today We've both felt love before, even if we deny it That familiar feeling of believing that we'll die without it But we never do, well, not completely Come on babe, we both know that I'll stay The Virgin Mary lives beside the highway Let's go and see her, let's ask her blessing today Bless us Bless us Bless us You know I'm adrift without you C'mon You know I still feel it You know I'm adrift without you C'mon You know I still feel it |

| This song to me is someone who loves a man, was with him once, but she lost him and she’s pleading with him to take her back, she’s desperate, she’s imploring him, “I just wanted to be your housewife, all I wanted was to be your housewife” WANTED being the key word, as in past, as in something that could have happened, “all I wanted was to be your housewife and do anything for you, I was so devoted, how could you do this to me?” she’s trying to convince him to take her back or maybe just make him regret and feel bad about breaking up with her. I’m not sure I’m conveying what I mean very well, but does anyone else see what I’m trying to say? She’s so desperate that she’s saying she would “wear your black eyes” and all the rest, when normally of course, I don’t think she would find all these things appealing. I don’t think this is making fun of any women at all and I don’t think it’s simply that she’s loves someone so much that she really would devote her whole life to pleasing him even if she got treated like shit, there’s gotta be a little more to it. | |
