| I *adore* this song. More elaboration on the myth itself-- in most versions, including Wikipedia (bah, I'm a cheat) Theseus abandons Ariadne sleeping on the shore. The song's basically telling her that it's all right to move on-- one bad relationship doesn't end the world, so get back on the horse. (And she does-- she ends up with Dionysus.) | |

It's a disturbingly controlling relationship he's in, maybe not a romantic one but certainly an obsessive one. And the other person's in control-- and he's not sure if he likes it or it's killing him. Either he's obsessed with her beyond all reasonable bounds, or she's a manipulative sadist. (And I use 'he' and 'she' relatively-- am I the only one who thinks this could just as easily be about two guys?) |
