MGMT – Metanoia Lyrics 15 years ago
The mystic referee on the cover and in the song is actually Carl Jung. Which makes sense, since he coined the term Metanoia as it relates to pscyhology.

MGMT – Electric Feel Lyrics 15 years ago
To me this song is clearly about the authors love for either LSD or DMT. It's not uncommon for male artists to portray a drug as a woman (see Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - The Beatles). The sexual urge he feels for this chick is really the impulse an addict has for LSD, they crave that electric feel. Supposedly it's also not uncommon for those tripping on ayahuasca (DMT) to experience encounters with an "Amazonian Goddess" and see/feel electricity pulsating through veins from them. I think Graham Hancock elaborates on that experience in an interview on ayahuasca and shamanism you can find on youtube. The song's music video also seems more similar to the ritualistic taking of hallucinogens in a rain forest than about some really sexy chick.

Anyways, we may never know the true meaning of this song, but that's not necessary to enjoy it!

Death – Perennial Quest Lyrics 16 years ago
How this masterpiece doesn't get more comments than this is astonishing. This is Chuck's greatest work in my opinion. I think anyone could appreciate the deep meaning behind the lyrics. He really increased the consciousness of metal I think. So... RIP Chuck!

K'naan – Fire in Freetown Lyrics 16 years ago
Great song but I think there are a few mistakes in the lyrics here.

"Like fire in Freetown you begin to light it" (not lighten, not *a* fire, and Freetown is a proper noun)
"By some riddle you sung little but scream mighty stronger" (not widdle)
"You place pins in my ribs and ask me to lie down" (not bins)

And unless your version of the song is different than mine, the ending goes like:

"There's no way to right (or write) it, there's no way to fight it
But I kick and scream and but you got me despite it
And I got my pride so I begin to fight it
Like fire in Freetown you begin to light it

(Fire, fire)
She pulled out her match and she burned down my home
(Fire, fire)
She always come find me she know where I roam
(Fire, fire)
She know where to touch me to turn me to stone
(Fire, fire)
She come like a storm and she rain on my lawn
(Fire, fire)
She know where to touch me to turn me to stone
(Fire, fire)
She always come find me she know where I roam
(Fire, fire)
She pulled out her match and she burned down my home"

Pain of Salvation – Morning On Earth Lyrics 17 years ago
I know this song ties into the concept, but I think it clearly has to deal with a man who had become cold and bitter (first two lines) and experiences a new "morning on earth" when he falls in love with this woman (She?). Being full of negativity, though, has become such a part of him that he's having trouble letting go and "breaking this crust" to find the inner child within him. Thst's why apart of him aches when he's with her ("Strange, the way beauty can hurt the unopened eye
Much more than all of the filth and pain
That we're soaked in ever could") He feels like a burden on her shoulders until the end, where ultimately he has a revelation that He was "born to love" and could leave his past behind him.

Tenacious D – Fuck Her Gently Lyrics 17 years ago
I listened intently, and found meaning in the duality of life. Black and white, good and evil, gently and hard. Sometimes you have to squeeze, sometimes you have to say please. But it's the universal act of fucking that brings us together.

Yes, technically, an eight year old can have sex. Prepubescent males can achieve orgasm but cannot ejaculate until they reach puberty. So they can still "feel it" and yet not dispell any semen. Does that answer your question?

Anyways... I guess Danny is/was a pretty messed up guy. Oh well, doesn't matter as long as he keeps putting out songs like this.

Pain of Salvation – Rope Ends Lyrics 17 years ago
"One night my wife dreamed that someone she knew tried to kill herself. The dream was so vivid she couldn't shake it off and finally she called her friend. It turned out that she had tried to hang herself three times that same night. A few years later I experienced someone trying to hang him/herself and I got there just in time. For a minute I couldn't get him/her down and I started to panic completely before I finally got the sudden insight that I should add my weight to the rope, and it broke. At one point earlier I thought of rushing to the kitchen for a knife to cut it with, but I found that it is impossible to leave the room when someone is hanging from the ceiling." - Daniel Gildenlöw

Pain of Salvation – Undertow Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the music in this song plays an equal role with the lyrics. It's treads kind of slowly and gives the feeling of weakness and desperation. The opening riff reminded me a lot of Tool's "Undertow" days as well! And overall very Floyd-esque.

Pain of Salvation – A Trace of Blood Lyrics 17 years ago
Definitely my favorite PoS song. I love how Daniel combines lugubrious lyrics with an upbeat melody. And the guitar solo is simply wonderful.
