The lyrics are a little off. This is what I hear. To me this song isn't about a girl. I think of it more as a song to all the people who sleep walk their way through life ("As I watch you doze away. You slept through minutes and hours and days", and "Here's my lullaby, designed to wake you up. Don't you close your eyes. The world has sealed them shut again. So you wanna be sung sleep?I prefer to slaughter the sheep you count each night it seems and waste a thousand dreams"), a call for them to open their eyes because it's over too soon (The night is young and the sky overhead . Will burn but not for long). |

It sounds like maybe he blames her a little and is somewhat bitter ("this song is my weapon of choice"). He tells her to remember the good times and maybe he hopes they haunt her ("My name will stay on the tip of your tongue, I will be your favorite mistake"). | |
