"Why We Fight" was a series of US propaganda movies used to win approval among the populace of entering WW2. The song seems to be about a soldier dying in the hospital after some war and trying to convince himself that it was worth it. |

This song is probably based on a Chekhov story called "The Witch". The story is about a woman who is unhappily married to a clergyman.. He thinks that she is a witch who controls the weather in order to get men to take shelter in their hut. One evening sometime between winter and spring ("..a dark slush of mud and melting snow flowed along the roads and paths") a blizzard begins and a young postman knocks at the door and asks to stay in their house for awhile. She lets him in even though her husband is angry about it.. anyway, I recommend the story! |
