I think the first two lines: They made up their minds (That no need to fight the coming death) And they started packing (They came to their senses they are going to die) They left before the sun came up that day (They died during sleep in the night) This represent death in general and how older people see it. Everything after is just what people many times have in mind - pickup their stuff and just go and never look back and things would turn good. When having a struggle many people just want to run from it all - in their case their struggle was delaying death and they knew they couldnt. |

I think its more like a second part of "Intervention". "Working for the church While your family dies." So no matter how good you will do at the "lighthouse" ships still goign to wreck. Its like someone questions whats good and whats bad. Some people look around watching people do good adn still get punished. So why not do bad and get punished..? "You want the truth? You know I'd do it all again" Maybe a refference to the whole church pastor forgivness way. You sin go to the church and being forgiven, so why not do a bad thing again. |
