| first of all it's "rapist". second of all she is falling on her face because she is probably wearing heels, which, if you are not used to wearing, might cause you to trip. then she would be lying on the floor, and her true nature would be exposed by the fact that she cannot properly walk in the costume she has donned herself with. hence, "lying there like you're tame." it's not about rape at all... the pixies have put out some kinky sexual material, stuff about incest and crossdressing and all that, but i do not think they would go THAT far. | |

oh yeah these lyrics are clearly indecipherable. that is one of the dumbest things i've ever heard... whether frank black said that or not (i sort of doubt that he did) it is quite obviously not applicable to every single fucking song he wrote. no songwriter spends that much time writing absolute nonsense. and i mean, this song's meaning is actually fairly obvious, and no one is DISSECTING them at all. a girl is dressing and/or acting provocatively, but the speaker suspects that her behavior and outfit are simply disguising the fact that she is inexperienced or reserved in some way (you'll fall on your face in those bad shoes). maybe she would rather sit at home and read books than go out and party. maybe she's never had sex before. it's impossible to say specifically, but what's certain is that the speaker is accusing this girl of pretending to be something she is not. |

i always thought the first verse was about being with a girl and not feeling anything between the two of you even though perhaps she really likes you. and she's excited to see him/have him call her on the phone, but he doesn't want to do either. whenever he calls her he just wants to put the phone down/put her down. then the second verse is about how that now that someone else has her he wants her. he thinks the other guy is wrong for her and he may sort of resent the fact that she doesn't want him anymore, so he wants to call her and tell her off and/or beg for her back or something but he always punks out and puts the phone down before he gets a chance to talk to her (while she may or may not be with her current boyfriend). yeah. |

I am pretty sure the song can be outlined like this: the first part of the song is depicting stevie being hung over. he's hung over because he was partyin it up last night, but now the party (the rock and roll era) is over. the second part of that song is him recounting all of the people that were at the "party with him" and he's telling him to say goodnight to the rock and roll era which. the third part is him critiquing other music scenes with a bunch of word play. composers (classical music) are distracted (as opposed to keeping their composure, or remaining composed). jazz buff's skinny arms (which would make them the OPPOSITE of buff!) then the "straight and narrow" dance "faction (which you would expect to be somewhat exclusive)" is too loose for him. laws are broken, amusing era, walls are broke in the music era are two lines that intentionally are made to sound almost exactly the same when you say them aloud. he is also commenting of the progress and raucousness of the "music era" or perhaps more specifically the rock era. the ending is a bit harder to interpret but it probably has something to do with unplugging instruments/ending your career for or because of drugs. i guess. |

I can't stand when people say that they relate to this song because they wish they were born in the 60s or the 70s. You're fortunate to have been born in this era. Life was just as hard back then, and there is so much wonder in the present. Not to mention you get to enjoy all of the great movies and books and albums and other manifestations of ideas that have come out from then until now. This song is about how Brian thought he was AHEAD of his time. He thought he was too far ahead of everyone he cared about, and sort of regretted it because he knew he would have to leave them behind. It's a very hard thing to do, and THAT is something I can relate to. If you seriously wish you could have born earlier because you can't or don't want to keep up with the times and the changes occuring on a daily basis, that only says to me that you're probably an idiot. |
