Another thought is that it is from the perspective of an indian living on the reservation. The lines, "the ground holds on to my grandpas", and "the dirt stores much of my family" give me the impression of deep history on the land and lots of death. |

This song hits close to home for me. I think "state of the big sky", is Montana, the Big Sky State. Also I don't think the lyrics are "state of the loud feet". They are 'state of the Blackfeet." Northwest Montana is Blackfeet Indian country. I read somewhere that as a child, Isaac spent sometime living on a commune in Sunburst, MT, which is just east of the Blackfeet Rez. I think it's about his youth and the time he spent there. |
