| I believe this song is about her maybe not being able to trust her significant other. He calls and says he's going to bed but she gets these ideas in her head that maybe he's not being entirely truthful. She knows it's silly but she thinks of these possible "schemes" because his "words in her head" have her "mixed up". the pirates represent these thoughts that are invading her mind and she's trying to chase them away in order to just be at peace. | |

Perhaps you had a different version, but I hear the lyrics differently. I think she's using this to say that our culture spends a lot of time giving the Paris' and Lindsays and Britneys of the world too much attention. We concern ourselves with such trivial trash when we should be focusing on more important issues. I think the second verse is just a comment on how our society is obsessed with image and weight and food. The song itself is her way of saying look at the condition of our society.Letting ourselves be constantly concerned with the state of the economy or our body image or the lives of others isn't getting us anywhere. We need more positive, intelligent images and thoughts because otherwise, we're just sucking the joy out of life. |

The complexity of the lyrics and the musicality of the song make it unforgettable. One of my all time favorites. I can't wait to see these guys live in March! | |
