This is about American intervention in Columbia. They essentially forced Panama from the Columbians, and bought all of the French progress on the Panama Canal for 40 million dollars. Bunau-Varilla was a French businessman who essentially convinced Roosevelt and the Congress to betray their treaty with the Columbians, and aid the Panamanian rebels in their move to independence. Murdering their plants... enormous amounts of herbicides were used to clear the forests of mosquitos. Paper's shot to pieces, betrayal of treaty. Bunau-Varilla was from France, and the original Panama effort was a French one. Ignoring all of their history... this is not really true. Panamanians were never Columbians, but America had no real background to qualify them for meddling in Columbia's business. The kids are small countries that can't stand a chance against the power of 1st world countries, and America-Panama relations are used as an example here. |
