I sent this song to a very dear friend of mine before he died of cancer. The reason I sent this song was that I wanted him to believe in me, that I'd always be his friend, that I'd be there for him, no matter what. The lyrics spoke to me in a very powerful way. When I found out he was dying, he was all I could think about, and I did cry myself to sleep many nights. The line "I never had the things to say/To make it all just go away/To make it all just disappear" was what I personally interpreted as, I just wanted to make his cancer go away, but I couldn't. But even so, I wanted to BELIEVE, and I wanted him to BELIEVE that maybe it would go into remission, and the line "Sometimes the weak become the strong" was to encourage him, because maybe, just MAYBE, he'd somehow come out of it - the weak becoming the strong. And the line, "I was made for chasing dreams" spoke to me too, because it really was just a dream I was chasing that he'd be all right. |

To me, this song speaks to me as someone who's reunited with an old lover temporarily. He wants to know "Are you cool with just tonight" because he's going to be "gone for good again" very soon. He doesn't want to have to leave, which is why he says, "Can't I stay an hour or two or more?" He doesn't want to, but he has to let her go. |
