I agree with the old saimiam00's comment. It sounds like the main character loved a girl very much and then discovered she cheated on him. Except she didn't tell him. Instead he found out because he caught an std. A person who studies reptiles is a Herpetologist, by the way. "I am so impure" If you know anyone who has caught an STD, they usually do get very lonely and miserable because they hate themselves for quite a long time. Which leads to this line: "angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress" Perfect, 'pure' people now hurt when he touches them. "need to contaminate, to alleviate this loneliness I now know that the depths I reach are limitless" In his mind, poor guy now has nothing to lose. He's just lonely and feels entirely unlovable. He simply does not care anymore who contracts the std with him, he just doesn't want to be alone anymore. Although, where he says "The blood of reptile" it confuses me why he said 'reptile' like a name. not "the blood of A reptile" or the blood of "reptiles" so because of how 'personal' it sounds, he might of actually known the person she cheated on him with? "seeds from a thousand others drip down from within" This is a pretty disgusting line, he's not just calling her a mere whore here. Poetic or not, its quite hateful. But yet he's just like her now, so instead of love/hate, he might actually feel sorry for her and have an understanding: he's in hell, and the only other person who's going through the same exact thing, betrayed him the most and ruined his life. |

My father used to use the saying "Call the ships to port" as a phrase that means to take time to gather yourself. This song seems to be describing a pivotal moment that's going to change your life for better or for worse and if you take the moment to pause and second guess your decisions you could really lose it all. Which the line where he gets louder and says "Tonight we light the fires, we call our ships to port, tonight we walk on water and tomorrow we'll be gone" sounds like the singer's decision to go all in with everything he has and risk it all for a goal that he knows might break him. The 'walking on water' I think describes his feeling of being untouchable. |

Yes the vocalist did drugs. Perhaps he felt motivated to make a song the music stops and the voice over seems to be the most important "You can turn your back on a person, but you can never turn your back on a drug." Very anti-drug mention. |

It's not a bum because he mentions leaving his apartment. Kicking the habbit sounds like he's trying to quit smoking or other drugs which is why he mentions 'possession' any addict would feel possessed, but by the amount of times its mentioned, I think it's smoking, especially because he's in public. I don't think it's about sex, a lot of it is just normal things you would see in a busy city if you live downtown. prostitutes, homeless people... Riding the subway is mentioned multiple times. I think he's walking and describing what he sees as he's walking, home and back perhaps because the subway is mentioned twice. |
