Martha- Ametatsu- That is exactly my take on this song. It's post-war, post-apocalyptic disaster. People are segregated, separated by a fence, perhaps in war camps...almost like the plight of the Jews. As to the "Cathedrals" it represents how beautiful the buildings are and yet how cold they are and uncaring to the situation below. How we turn to the church to seek absolution and yet find none. Everyone just wants to go home...but there is no home anymore. |

Yes. This song to me is about waiting your whole life to find that perfect person to spend your life with. You see your friends grow up, get married and have children...but you're left behind. Exactly. It's the story of how so many people get trapped in their 'small town' not to mean in a town with a small population. It's the mentality of, I was born here, my parents were born here, it is expected of me to do x and x that traps you. In other words...following the ideal of others and not yourself. |

My interpretation of this song is that she is singing about her childhood. The overall angst of growing up and youth lost and wasted on the young. If you follow the other songs on her album this makes sense as the general theme of her music is growing up, growing old, finding and losing love. "I left her 15 years behind..." I'm not the same "girl" I used to be, I left that person behind long ago and I am a much different person now... "God knows I tried to leave her...but she's got a constant fever... I let it slip my mind..." Even though I am not that person I was before and o'how much I've tried to change, still, my past is part of who I am today... how often I forget. |
