| Bad Religion – I Want to Conquer the World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it's about people who have fixed ideologies and think that their way is "the way" and if they could conquer the world they would set things right. others have commented that its a pessimistic song because you'll fail trying to fix things and that's right but i think its also used to attack people with dogmatic beliefs, be they right or left, religious or secular, or whatever. one of the best BR songs! | |
| Bad Religion – Supersonic Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| It's about struggling to maintain one's humanity and authenticity in a modern world. | |
| Bad Religion – Suffer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is about how fucked up life is and how depressing it is to be a human. It's not very specific, much like other bad religion songs. it's not just about "corporations" it says the masses of humanity have ALWAYS had to suffer. | |
| Rancid – Listed M.I.A. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Missing in Action. like in the military. and what the fuck are the rest of you guys talking about? | |
| Rancid – Corazon De Oro Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I know fat mike sings "Met her in my neighborhood" i always thought he said "imagine, from my neighborhood!" I also didn't head "in a slow line" but rather "and that's what I like" but it never made a lot of sense either way. this song is the only rancid song where i question the lyrics. also "Tomorrow will come on through and I got nothing but a ______" I think he says "painted picture". Lovely song. NOFX cover is good in its own way but not as good as the original. | |
| They Might Be Giants – The End Of The Tour Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It's a song about death. Specifically a car crash. All these specifics about the news reporter or Kurt Cobain are possibilities. "If you're still around" (is there a hereafter?) "Then we'll meet at the end of the tour" "And we're never gonna tour again. No we're never gonna tour again" - Powerful ending that really drives the point home. P.S. Michael McKean does this spoken word on Gigantic. |

| They Might Be Giants – Don't Let's Start Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Seriously of all the TMBG songs out there that one could ponder for the rest of their lives this was never one to me. Bad relationship from the point of view of a shy young man not being treated well. He doesn't get around like she does, he wants to believe she's pure (precious little girl). He doesn't deal with the problem head on and instead articulates his feelings in his mind as "Everybody dies frustrated and sad and that is beautiful" and "I don't want to live in this world anymore" Seriously it's a bad relationship from the point of view of someone who doesn't really "get around" like his girlfriend does. NO WAIT I THINK IT'S ABOUT MEDICAL SCIENCE IN THE 17TH CENTURY!!!!!!!! seriously people, if you've been there you get it. I get it. |

| They Might Be Giants – She's An Angel Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The version of this song at the end of Gigantic is soooo beautiful and puts the original to shame. I wish I had the Gigantic version on CD. Lovely. | |
| They Might Be Giants – Istanbul (Not Constantinople) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

| They Might Be Giants – Lie Still, Little Bottle Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Terror? This song is fun. | |
| They Might Be Giants – Dead Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Damn it Sim Goddess took my comment. Seriously though I've always wanted that. This song has sad lyrics and upbeat music (obviously) and is one of my favorite TMBG songs. It has been able to cheer me up when I feel horrible. I could be having the worst day or even be going through something serious and then I hear, "Did a large procession, wave their torches as my head fell in the basket, and was everybody dancing on the casket?" Seriously I love that! | |
| They Might Be Giants – Robot Parade Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I've only heard the adult version. IT RULES! | |
| Billy Bragg – To Have And To Have Not Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I saw Rancid a couple years ago and they did an acoustic version of this song. Also there's a version on youtube where they're live in Japan and Lars plays it electric w/ no accompaniment like the original and like he plays "The War's End" in concert (a song that referenced Billy Bragg). Lars changes the last verse to say: Well at 21 you're on top of the scrap heap At 16 you were on top of your class Well I dropped out of high school in Campbell, California Got a guitar and I never looked back Being a dropout, guitarist and native Northern Californian I gotta say this lyric hits home and good covers are when the artist makes it their own. |

| The Pogues – A Pistol For Paddy Garcia Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is my favorite Pogues instrumental. It's very nice. I particularly like the tin whistle and electric guitar, although obviously the banjo is essential. Also the whistling. Great song. | |
| The Pogues – The Body of an American Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it's about a young Irish-American who goes to Ireland for the first time to bury his relative, Jim Dwyer. Either that or he's still home getting Irish history lessons from older immigrants but I think they went to Ireland cuz of "the shores where his fathers laid" As for being "a character, getting into fights" he is clearly a boxer. i.e. (He fought the champ in Pittsburgh)(it only went one round) I'm guessing the war refers to one of the World Wars and "they sent him" means he was drafted. Great song. | |
| The Pogues – Sally MacLennane Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Re: mithgil's assertion that Jimmy is a male prostitute. Jimmy played harmonica (hint) in the pub where I was born... ...He soothed the souls of psychos and the MEN WHO HAD THE HORN I'm not sure but I'm just saying it could be. Also I think Shane said the elephant man was a real guy who was really big and got drunk and beat the shit out of people. This song is NOT about a girl but rather it's a positive illustration of growing up around a bunch of terrible stuff. In short, it's Irish. |

| The Pogues – Hell's Ditch Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is about prison. Come on. | |
| The Pogues – If I Should Fall From Grace With God Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is my first post on this site. Just wanted to say this is my favorite Pogues song and I think it's about as good as a song can get. Shane is one of the most underrated songwriters. | |
