feels like all commenter above are right, but i want to add my view – maybe someone will find it interesting. Despite Regina keeps saying that most her songs don’t reflect her own experience, this song seems to be more personal. It’s not only partying with childhood, as was said above, but “concealing” her soviet origins, which might make her feel “not from here” sometimes. On this ‘side’ she sold her voice (ceased speaking russian) for ‘feet to walk in THEESE streets’ and for ‘midnight train; and a bump of cocaine; and an old photo of ballets russes’ – things that could ease her missing homeland. Have you thought that childhood (along with USSR) are places where you can’t get back again? And there was something good in it. ‘for a bottle of gin cause I can't swim {the ocean back to the land of origins} and I sure don't want to float {be a stranger here, my ‘new’ home} Men notice her ‘strangeness’ and flee cuz they don’t know how to talk to her, don’t see (or scared of) her mentality. This flower’s sympathized as being thrown out of his living place. And flowers are nationless – they are what you want them to be – Mozart – deaf composer, like its adopter -- mute singer. Sorry : ), just a thought |

first: thank you everybody, cuz reading this really helps to see some of R’s lyrics HERE what I’ve heard when first listened to the song was a story of bad diseased woman: “I cut off my hair… …You were … nursing on a glass teat… …I peed in my pants…” one faces that having cancer Maybe her boy got scared of those difficulties and she couldn’t forgive him, nor forget. Or maybe doesn’t even blame him, but it’s hard. IMHO sorry for my english |
