Oh and by the way, if you really have THAT much of a problem with the end of this song, you can find the clean version of this cd, which has it removed, there's no cursing elsewhere on the cd, so this is the only song affected, personally i don't think the song works without it, but thats just me. You should be able to pick up a copy on amazon.com pretty easily. |

Wow, I'm suprised no ones managed to get what's going on here... Can't stop the sound Can you? Let the tape roll This is refering to the song itself, it has such a soft, seductive sound, and it entices you to keep listening, so you let the "tape" roll. Aren't you gonna get sick? This is referring to the last minute of the song, which apparently made the vast majority of you sick. They're asking you "why are you still listening? aren't you going to get sick?" So your troubles continue to multiply and to grow in a direct result of your being misguided. Deceived. Misdirected. Or fooled. All themes are variations of the basic ego gloried wide theme in which you follow the gospel truth. You were misguided into listening to this entire song, even it's filthy ending. Look at all the trouble it caused here, and how all the negative comments multiplied, all because you were decieved. It's essentially a commentary on modern day life, and how everyone is so easily misguided, you pursue the wrong ideals and goals, and essentially fuck yourself over. The title Pink Cellphone refers to how commercialized our society has become. Who the fuck really needs a pink cellphone? |

| Porcupine Tree – The Sound Of Muzak Lyrics | 17 years ago |

While at first this could be seen as just a dig at the music industry. I believe it is intended to be about the funeral of the protagonists mother. One of the wonders of the world is going down It's going down I know It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares No-one cares enough To him she was one of the wonders of the world, but now she is literally going down beneath the ground, but no one really cares, he starts to resent the world. Soul gets squeezed out Edges get blunt He starts to become very bitter and has nothing but negative thoughts as he listens to the music drifting down the aisles during the service. The music of the future will not entertain From now on music will only remind him of this painful day and stir up these negative feelings. |

| Porcupine Tree – Trains Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Perhaps the only song on the album without any dark undertones. The protagonist, still quite young at this point is staying with relatives for the summer. He lays in bed at night listening to the trains pass by, thinking of home and how much he misses it. I'm kissing you wide Could be interpreted as perhaps sending a goodnight kiss to his mother back home before he goes to sleep for the night I'm dying of love It's OK He misses her so much he claims he is dying, but it's okay because he's just exaggerating, the way all children do. |

I believe this song takes place when the protagonist is still a young and pure child. The majority of the lyrics refer to when he grows up and "goes wild". Swim with me into your blackest eyes. But for now he is still indeed just a child, and unaware of the future that awaits him, he stares into his mothers eyes as she sings him a lullaby, |

| Porcupine Tree – Lips of Ashes Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I always interpreted this song as being about the death of the protagonists mother. Idolised Black Eyes fading You and I Connection failing To me this is a continuation of the opening track "Blackest Eyes" She would sing him lullabys as a child and he would stare or "swim" in her eyes. "Swim with me into your blackest eyes" But now she is dying, life fades from her eyes, and connection with the person he loves most in the world is lost I drill down inside The protagonist has lost the one person he cares about and begins to bottle up his emotions. This is the track where the transformation into a killer begins. |
