| Tool – Lateralus Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| For me this song is about the evolution of human consciousness, hence the lyrics "swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human." Swing on the spiral of the evolution of human consciousness into the cosmic, going "where no one's been." | |

I agree with you about people interpreting this song as having to deal with a romantic relationship. I see it this way: It's song about telos or humanity progressing up that hill. Swapping places means trying on the other's shoes or seeing things from their vantage point. "Let's exchange the experience." To me this song is about compassion, donning the suffering of another so we can reach telos, run up that hill. |

I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them tumble down No fault, none to blame, it doesn't mean I don't desire To point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication These above lines from the song reference the Tower of Babel in the Bible. The story goes as follows: 1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children built. 6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. |

| 30 Seconds to Mars – Was It a Dream? Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Why is it that so many people think that songs are about a relationship with someone? Look a little deeper. There are many types of relationships. There are the relationships you have with yourself, with someone else of course, and also with your idea of the Infinite or your Higher Self. This song seems to be talking more about a spiritual relationship than a mundane one. "Was it a dream?" could be talking about how when you glimpse the Infinite you wonder if you're going crazy and hope it was only a dream. Plus I feel that this verse doesn't go with it being about a mundane relationship: My intentions never change What I want still stays the same And I know what I should do Its time to set myself on fire |

| I felt that this song is trying to say that life itself is the beautiful lie. | |
| 30 Seconds to Mars – The Story Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| We are all living lies. There is not a person on this earth who is truly and utterly themselves. It is only when we hit rock bottom, when we suffer that this false self is stripped from us and we are nothing but our naked, true selves without the bull shit. This part: "And I swear to God I'll find myself in the end" means that in the end, in death we will all find ourselves. | |
