The Hush Sound – That's Okay Lyrics 17 years ago
Sounds like an orphan to me...but that's all I can figure out...I just don't get this song. It's beautiful, but I can't figure out what I think it means at all...

The Hush Sound – Hurricane Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it's about a really intense relationship that just ended, and I mean intense in a negative way. It sounds to me like a lot went wrong in the relationship, but sort of in a way she still appreciates a lot of what happened. I think it's one of those things where you look back and can't help but wince at the thought of most of what happened, but there are still those memories that remind you of why you stayed as long as you did. I think, for her though, there was a lot of damage done. She's describing the rubble of a house destroyed by a storm, which I'd say represents this destructive guy and this destruction that's been done to her emotionally. Even though she has a new love ("he's asleep in my bed") it's hard not to think of everything that happened. That doesn't have to mean she still loves the guy, it's just hard to forget. And even though waiting for her regrets and her pain to die down and sink in sounds like the best thing to do, it doesn't feel like that will ever happen ("I could wait around for the dust to still, but I don't believe that it ever will")

I'm probably only interpreting it this way because that sounds a lot like my own ex, but I am trying to work with the lyrics as far as what she specifically is feeling. We'd differ in the respect that I think she was abused, just by the way some of her songs sound...

But either way, it's a gorgeous song

Hmmm, I think I'm the only one who watched the video and didn't think the guy in red represented sex. I thought he was romance, really. I think that all three of those men were supposed to represent different elements that made one man very appealing to her, and very hard to leave. I get the feeling that he was a bit forceful or clingy or something too because somewhere in the video there are three guys who have her backing up in fear into a corner...I'd imagine somebody made her very uncomfortable. It seems like she's very in love with somebody who's just...not that nice. I think she realizes that the guy she's with in this song isn't right for her, but she loves him, and it's very hard to let go of that. It seems like at certain points of the video, everything's going just fine and then something in her mind changes and the guy always looks a little pissed. It's a little eerie, I'm leaning towards the thought of her in a not so healthy relationship. Also the white dress, white room, white record, and even white letter, there's definitely a purity theme going on there. And this guy has everything a girl could ever want, he's got the money, the romance, the creativity- in that special glamorous way...but he has a "dark heart" and a "cold kiss" I think what that means is that, sure, it LOOKS nice, it even FEELS nice, but when it all comes down to it, there's something very off about him and the way they are as a couple. But luckily, it sounds like she's ready to leave, and that's what the song is about. "I am growing sleepless, and you're out of lullabies" She's not going to try to just ignore the problem here, and there's nothing he can say to change that or to "lull her to sleep" if you get where I'm coming from here...Also the "Medicine Man" reference at the end of the video sort of leads me to believe that she's transitioning from desperation within this unhealthy relationship, into a lot of sadness after the breakup is all said and done. I think that's sort of when it all kicks in for anyone, that whole "wow I let myself get mixed up in some bad stuff" feeling really only sinks in when it's *over* most of the time.

This is all just how I see it though, I could be waaaaaay off

wow that's a neat interpretation, I never would have thought of that...whether that's what it's about or not, that's a pretty original thought

I agree with the AIDS part, that's what I thought of right away. The part about lovers who "have tainted you, they pulled you into the night" I mean, to me, that just screams AIDS. That'd be my guess, and the part later on about being weathered and worn and so on...just about anyone you love that you have to see suffer looks that way to you, or to me anyway. I mean, in a medical sense. Seeing someone you've known for a long time in a hospital bed, that's powerful. I think that's what she's getting at in that part...especially if it IS AIDS, which it may or may not be, because that's a pretty hard thing to face...

The Hush Sound – Don't Wake Me Up Lyrics 17 years ago
For me, personally, I relate it to wanting, not losing. It could be about either one, but the lyrics to me seem to describe something that the narrator never had in the first place, except in her dreams. That's not a very nice place to be, constantly longing for something I mean. And I think they capture this well...Whether she had who she's missing in the first place or not, I definitely interpret this as longing for someone.
