when I picture 2 people slow dancing in a burning room I imagine that these 2 people see that the room they're in is on fire, they know they're dying, but they choose to ignore the fact and just carry on as normal..or maybe even just enjoy their last moments together So I think this song's about a relationship where both people know it's dying and it's about to end, but they've been ignoring the fact and pretending everything's fine. |

My interpretation of this song is basically a mixture of what a bunch of you have already said. "Cold water" represents something bad. A mistake. A breakup. An accident. A death. anything. Something that the person wants out of. "All I've got is your hand". To me the person is saying that all he has is the hand of ..someone, not God. A girlfriend, a friend, a family memeber......And he's saying that it's not enough. It's not working. It's not helping. So he resorts to calling out to God: "Lord can you hear me now?" I think, like lucifermoose said, the person is crying out to God and desperately wants him to exist, but no matter how many times he calls out, there is never a reply. "No one's daughter. Allow me that." I agree with sensitivetofate....the girl is saying she isn't a child of god. allow her to be that. she can't save you. she's powerless. but... "And I cant let go of your hand" - the guy said that her hand wasnt enough..but she's saying she cant let go, despite the fact that it isnt enough, and that she isnt a child of god. she isnt powerful enough to save you. "Lord can you hear me now" and then she too, calls out to the God that she so desperately hopes exists And then the chanting...is, of course, God, saying that he is there, always has been, he just needs them to come to him. dont just call out for him, come to him. Im sure thats not what damien meant by the song, but thats how i take it. |
