When I was twelve or so, the choral director (who was teaching general music) played this one in class. I thought it was pretty catchy and was just precocious enough to get some of the references. But gods help me, when I grew up and heard the line "Hey, I got a social disease!" I about died. There are, of course, darker social commentary undertones in here for anyone who cares to listen. Drug use and illegitimacy: not just problems of today! Maybe they won't be problems in some distant tomorrow. |
