no, I find you had the right focus on this song... basically its an ex girlfriend situation where she shows up when he appears to have moved on with someone else... part of his bridge he is saying "your so blind, I know that you know"...hes pretty much in love with her still...and he knows that she can see it in his eyes, in his actions or reactions... but its all lost in translation between him and the girl. |

| Kings of Convenience – Winning a Battle, Losing the War Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song is simple to understand, it is beautiful while melancholy. It is about true unconditional love in the direction of a girl who frequently subjects him to heartache, angst, pain etc. through her terrible decisions or situations she may be "stuck" in. I don't feel its a one way type of love though. "Even though I'll never need her, even though she's only giving me pain, I'll be on my knees to feed her, spend a day to make her smile again" Perhaps he is trying to justify his efforts by admitting he doesnt need her to us...but hes showing that he still and always will love her unconditionally. She has made some terrible choices...and he worries about her. He wants her to be happy even at the expense of himself. He is willing to sacrifice himself in order to save her. "Even though I'll never need her, even though she's only giving me pain As the world is soft around her, leaving me with nothing to disdain." Again hes acknowledging he understands the points of view in this situation...but he can and will, at the expense of himself give her a fresh start to a new day and a new life. "Even though I'm not her minder, even though she doesn't want me around, I am on my feet to find her, to make sure that she is safe and sound. Even though I'm not her minder, even though she doesn't want me around, I am on my feet to find her, to make sure that she is safe from harm." This screams out to me drug addiction as if the girl is into something she is not proud of and would like to keep a secret...she doesn't want him around but she needs him around. He knows of her weaknesses and still digs down to find the energy/motivation to grant him solace that at the end of the day, she is out of harms way...maybe even protecting her from herself. "The sun sets on the war, the day breaks and everything is new..." the end of the first paragraph hints/leads into this statement...he is willing to do whatever it takes, regardless of how much it may hurt him to give her a fresh start...hes fought his battle for the day and the on-going battle resumes. I can relate to this song because of a situation I've been in my entire life and I am still in even today. This girl has been the absolute love of my life for over 15 years...I'm nearly 29 as of right now. |

| Bonnie Raitt – I Can't Make You Love Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| While a lot of people will say its about a "break-up" it ultimately can be related to a break-up...its written however about that final hour where you realize or admit the truth that in this particular relationship "you can't make that person love you, if he/she doesn't." While some will relate it to a selfish person who is just incapable of providing another with the love they deserve...it can also be about a two people who just don't know how to find that spark...two that weren't meant to be together. Now being a guy and in a couple of serious relationships I can say I've been on both ends of this. And it does suck when you know that difficult decision/hurt being thrown around is about to surface. The song is about someone who knows its not the right person they are with/laying next to etc. and they know they have to cut their losses and move forward...however they can be easily persuaded and find hope in the tiniest of things. Bonnie's lyrics are really beautiful and unfortunately they are present in too many of our lives on a day to day basis. | |
| Ben Harper – Walk Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I don't feel this song is necessarily about being "the dumped" person. I think its about someone who loves another with all of their heart and soul. However unfortunately they are just on different plains. Lost in translation so to speak. There is one person in the relationship who is constantly let down which results in that person doing the one thing they would never dream of doing...just walking away. Stating the obvious...you're damned if you do, damned if you don't is one of the main messages here. It is about two people who do try to remain friends but they keep finding one another only to see once again they are still are on different plains. It is indeed very beautiful but also its sad and painful. After hearing this I honestly can say the hurt part of me wishes I never found that one person I truly love..life would be a lot easier. | |
