It's definitely 'my first born for a song' and 'cross his palm' - the story going throughout the whole song is that he has writer's block & can't seem to get a song together: || Somewhere in this froth || And howling wind || There's something worth singing || Climb into the attic to write me a classic || But it's not happening Cross his palm - as in, offer him a bribe & he'll give up his first born - in other words, he'd give anything to break his drought & get a song down. Writing a song about not being able to write a song - genius. D |

'Would ya go away and shite' is a phrase in Ireland (or Dublin at least) - meaning stop talking shite, which I think makes good sense in the song - he's talking about staring at the starts & she was saying how last night he was just complaining about the stars. Great song. |
