Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Time Jesum Transeuntum Et Non Riverentum Lyrics 10 years ago
When Cave says "dread the passage of Jesus for he does not return" I think he is referring to a loss of faith. When you stop believing, you can never really get it back, no matter how much you'd like to.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Let the Bells Ring Lyrics 16 years ago
Most of Cave's music has religious and biblical overtones and themes, though it rarely supports religious ideals. If you take his song "God is in the House" at face value, it could be a song celebrating a overly religious town and traditional values. However, I think he meant it as a scathing mockery of religion and theocracy.

In the case of this song, it's a song about Johnny Cash (if you listen to the live tour disc, he clearly says the song is dedicated to Cash), and not Jesus.
