I never thought of it in a "break-up" sense, and I suppose that makes more sense, but I always thought of it like this: Maybe I'm just living out the same old stories in and out But you know that don't make it easier {This part means that her lover passed away, and she always reminisces, looks at pictures, reads old love letters, but it never gets any easier} Time will fly away with me if truth won't stop and let me see And tell me I am to believe that you and I should never be again {time keeps going on and on. she can't stop it, but she won't let her heart accept the fact that she will never see him again. She keeps thinking he will come back, but he won't, ever again.) I'm drowning (hopeless, lost, in so much pain that she can't breathe) When the one you leave is the one thing you believe You say goodbye when underneath’s your one belief (he left her through death, and he was the one thing she believed in. she has to say goodbye, but yet she still believes she will see him again one day) That love rules all, conquers all (no matter what, love conquers death.) It’s funny how the times that seem unbearable Are the ones that you don't ever want to end (in death, the pain is there. she always feels the pain, but when the pain starts to fade, she feels guilty. she doesn't want the pain to end, subconsciously. I actually know what that's like. when you start to feel happy after the loss of someone close to you. you feel so bad, you just want to go back to the hurt, but at the same time, you just want the hurt to stop, so badly) And when your childhood slips away You find you face a brand new day And you know it can't be the same again {the naivity of young love, after death, is gone. she must face a new day with bravery, though things will never, ever be the same again. she is changed by the grief} 'Cause when you leaved you stayed in my memory I’m saying goodbye for now and have a drink for us And good luck and find your way {when he died, he left a handprint on her heart, and many memories to boot. she's finally learning to say goodbye, drink to him, and pray that he finds his way to heaven, to wait for her) Clawing out will sometimes seem so far away Never knowing if I'll live to see another day {she feels like she's reaching out, and screaming out for help. she never knows if she's going to make it another day, because it just hurts so badly} Never seem to find out what to do No one seems to tell you 'Cause you're drowning {everyone tries to comfort her, but no one knows what to say, because she's "drowning" and no one understands quite what she is going through) When the one you leave is the one thing you believe You say goodbye when underneath’s your one belief (this part is explained above, verse one i believe) That love rules all, conquers all That love rules all, it conquers all (again, no matter what life brings, love conquers death) I always found this song so emotionally moving. I've always related it to the loss of a loved one. This song just gets to me, it so matches the feelings you feel when you loose a love. |
