It's about a dying relationship "The farmhouse is burning down" Obviously, the singer is ending it but his/her other wants to try again but with the "ash in your mouth" line, seems unlikely. "Cinder and Smoke You'll ask me to pray for rain With ash in your mouth You'll ask it to burn again" I love and hate this song. One of I&W's best, imo. |

HA, this song used to bring good memories. Now just tragic ones :( I guess it's about your significant other leaving you. Heartbreak. Denial and delusions of grandeur sets in and you think they would never move on or say/do the things they did, hence: "...I doubt it every time. I guess my love was blind" Ha, to think that no one could replace the bond you had and no one could make him/her happier than you. WRONG. The most tragic part about this song is that you'll always love your significant other : "In my eyes You will always be the lucky one Cause you know you'll always have my love For all times until I die" Yet, the feeling is unrequited. So basically your love will always haunt you "Through the end I gave to you my best You gave, you gave me loneliness" Good shit though!!!! |

To me, the song is about being in love or feeling intense infatuation OR maybe both for a girl but she won't let him "in" so to speak with sexual cues. "Ivory lines lead Oh-wa-ho." It's about desperation almost. Wanting to know what the other person feels for you but having no luck because maybe because they won't say. Maybe the feelings aren't mutual. She's feeling this guy but her insticts are telling her not to follow through w/ thier fling because of the circumstances. "Oh instincts are misleading... they don't tell you what you know you should want" One of my fav DCfC tunes. |

Yeah, I think everyone's had their bittersweet secret relationship. It's funny because how often do they end out with a happy ending? Not many yet we still gave it a go. haha. Obviously the song is about a couple seeing each other on the down low but one of the two ends up growing emotions for the other. For whatever reason, the other person in the relationship ended it and the one with the emotions is left hearbroken. Reminds me of my "Delicate" experience. I fell hard for the first time and that ultimately lead to the end of our secret meetings. Hell, even friendship. I wasn't what she needed I guess. Hmmm, reminds me of Volcano, haha. Whatever. The world keeps spinning right. All we can do is wait or move on. Awesome song though. The secrecy, unrequited love, feelings of inadequacy, sorrow... It almost describes my situation to the T. |

It's funny how much more I adored this song once I actually felt what Beth was singing. To feel vulnerable, scared, confused, obsessed, and utterly in love all at once over someone is scary. "For so bare is my heart, I can't hide And so where does my heart, belong?" Good shit. This song and "Roads" are my favorite Portishead tunes. |

My favorite Copeland song. I think it's my favorite because it haunts me and reminds me of a shitty experience that i've been through. Bleh. Unrequited love seems to be the theme to me. Or at least that's what I'd like it to be about. Sucks to be in that dilemma. |
