"God god god god god" oh my "god" people, give it a rest. can't it just be about what's important to everyone? "everyone has their obsession." it can mean something different for everyone listening, so if an atheist is listening, i seriously doubt their obsession will be God. i'm not that religious-oriented, so the way i see this song is everyone values something in their life, and he's talking about whatever person he values. "objects of affection" and "always one addiction" don't really make god pop into my mind, but maybe that's just me. |

i love the wordplay in "It echoed though the park last night" i don't necessarily like the meaning behind it, but it is clever considering it happened in Echo Park. it's weird how such a sad event could inspire a seemingly uplifting song. this one doesn't seem like one of those depressing regret songs or a song like Hear You Me by Jimmy Eat World where they think about what they didn't do. this song instead makes you remember all the good things about him and how even though it was unfortunate, everybody dies. | i love this song. it seems the only time he doesn't feel lost is when he's with whoever he's singing about. the third verse is talking about how socially awkward he is, and he knows he's like that even when he's with the girl, but he still feels safe with her and wants to be himself. the "i'll overdo it" part shows he knows he's out of control, but the only time he feels sane is when he's with her. and the "29 years" part shows that all the time while he was trying to find himself, he was essentially trying to find her, because he's only himself when he's around her. | |

"if this is the cream of the crop, it's time to start burning some fields." - sense of extreme entitlement. the guy thinks he's the cream of the crop, but he isn't "put the knife back in the medicine cabinet." - substance abuse and aggressive behavior. guy is taking drugs, gets a knife. why was the knife in the medicine cabinet in the first place? it's a common reoccurrence. "you can make believe, enfant terrible." - persistent lying and antisocial. enfant terrible is a term used for when people's behavior or ideas annoy or shock someone. and the oh so obvious: "the secret's out: you wet the bed." bed-wetting. the song's about someone with Antisocial Personality Disorder IMO |

i've loved this song ever since I first heard it on NBC's show "Chuck," which has really great music in it. The scene they used it in was when he was breaking up with the girl everyone knows he's supposed to be with, but things were just too complicated and he kept getting hurt by thinking they could be something more. It was like he had just gotten a huge weight off his shoulders and he was now free to just live his life without worrying about anything. for me, this song has the same feeling of the first warm summer day after a hell of a winter, which i am all too familiar with from living in Boston. I love the combination of the drums and violin in this. it' just so simple and great. |

I think this song is talking about either unrequited love or just love in general. On the unrequited side of things it sounds like he would say anything to compliment her. All snow angels look the same, so why would hers be any more special than his? He just wants to make her happy and maybe she will love him back. The still life reference could be how he feels so little compared to her, who he has idolized. "Better stop before it goes too far" could be him telling himself he's pushing it and will eventually drive her away. It could just be referring to a guy talking about the girl he is in love with and he feels his main purpose for being put on this earth was to be with her. |

"Like an apple hanging from a tree I picked the ripest one I still got the seed" It took me forever to realize what this was referring to and I think I finally got it. The fact that she still has the seed from that perfect apple (guy) is supposed to be like the seed is her memory of him and she'll forever have him on her mind. The use of the word "got" is what threw me off at first. I mistook it as meaning "received" instead of "posses." |
