| Underworld – Always Loved A Film Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I love this song as well. Something about it just makes me happy. I get chills when they start singing "heaven, heaven". I think the song is about the everyday rhythms of life and how fascinating the world can be if we stop for a moment and just watch and listen, cars in the distance, reflections of light, a beautiful woman walking towards us, and how it all blends into the music we listen to. I can't help but think of the raver character form the show Spaced who gets trapped at a traffic light as if it's a club strobe hearing all the sounds rhythmically pulsing around him. And the title... no idea. |

| The Sundays – Here's Where The Story Ends Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I never wrote a lot into the first verses. She's describing walking down the street, everyone looking down, inside their own thoughts. And then people are weary of her being cheerful, they look at her and away, she's not part of their world. There is alienation there, but I think more from an inability to share her story with strangers and being in the crowd gradually wears her good mood away. I'd say today I clearly think the little souvenir is a book of some sort. It makes the most sense with the title as well. Here's where the story of her fling ends. Here's where the book she has as her last memento ends. However, in the past I've spiraled through a couple different meanings for the song. Admittedly some because I have a devil of a time understanding the enunciation of some of her words. At times I've thought the "little souvenir" was a child she had out of wedlock. And at times I've though the "shed" was first a place where she fooled around with a boy, second a place where she was taken for punishment by her father. Like maybe she had a fling in the shed, got pregnant, and was punished, and now is stuck with a baby. |

| I think this song is pretty clearly about a man who laments the effect that a divorce or fights he is having with his wife are having on their daughter. | |

Why does everybody think every New Order song is about a gay guy? AFAIK none of the members of New Order are gay. While the band may be popular in clubs and has many gay fans I don't think they set out every album to write gay anthems. I believe this song is about a guy who is controlled by his girlfriend. He is told by her how to feel at every moment of the day. He believes his life would be much better if he had never met her. The idea that it is about someone in a fascist state being told how to think through propaganda is an interesting thought. However, the song seems more person to me than that. It seems to be addressing another person directly. |

| New Order – 1963 Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I always thought this song was from the point of view of a woman who was killed by her husband in 1963. The chorus is sung from her point of view when he is threatening her life. Other parts of the song are more narrative describing how the man later remarries. And, the truly tragic end of the song is apparently the dead wife lamenting from beyond the grave that she isn't with Johnny. She still loves him even after he killed her. LIke other victims she believe he never wanted to hurt her. |

| New Order – Sub-Culture Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I had the impression the song was a semi-autobiographical account of the song writing process. The line "These crazy words of mine, so wrong they could be right." seems to suggest this. The line "What do I get out of this? I always try, I always miss" suggests that the author is not happy with how the words come out. Like many artists he works late and walks around until dawn to clear his head. I wasn't sure about the word "shaft". This does seem sexual, and I have heard "shag" listening to the song myself, but it can also mean a verbal barb. Perhaps you can't write something very personal without hurting someone, but "in the end you will submit, it's hot got hurt you a little bit". He's telling his loved ones that he is going to write about his relationship with them and it may hurt. |
