| Matchbox Twenty – Push Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Are the rest of you people listening to the same song as I am? "Push" is from the point of view of a guy who's getting involved in a new relationship with a woman who has been put through hell by the other men she's been with. She's hurt and angry and is warning him in advance that she's not going to be easy for him to love. She's probably going to push him away, take him for granted, maybe even be physically aggressive towards him. But she's also saying that she isn't willing to give up on the idea of loving someone, just that she's probably going to be really bad at it and he's going to take a lot of punishment for what other men have done to her. |

| I mean, why would a "crumpled up pair of trousers" cost a brand new dime? Trousers, perhaps, but do you know how long ago a pair of pants would cost a dime? Much longer than a hotel with brown shag carpet would exist. I say it's "lost" and not "cost". | |

For brink...on MY Cake CD it says "LOST a brand new dime." I don't know what version you're hearing, but I'm pretty sure it's "lost." And yes, there's always the secondary meaning... I read this Cake song as so many other Cake songs, that there's an underlying love song--it's saying, "I may not look like much to you, but if you don't see how shiny and new I am, I'm not going to let you make me feel like I'm worthless." |

| Such a lovely, lovely song. I don't know how anyone COULD hate it. | |
| Cake – Daria Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This song is just weirdly incestuous to me. I realize, of course, it's not about a relationship with his mother, but he sort of allows this woman in his life to treat him like her child, and clearly he acts like a child. He's temperamental, cranky, and rude, and she takes it and takes it until finally she can't take anymore and tells him to "get out." We women are always sort of trying to "change" men to suit what it is we really want, and it looks like Daria found a man she couldn't change, one who flat out refused to change, and hey, she's probably better off without him. |

| Weezer – Butterfly Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I had a boyfriend named Ben once, who could quite possibly have been Weezer's biggest fan ever, and he put this song on a CD for me along with a bunch of other "love" songs by various artists... We were together about six months before everything fell apart. It was a hard and heavy thing to take, what happened between us. Ben, as much as I did, had a very hard time committing to a relationship, and as much as we loved each other, we both did everything we could come up with to drive the other away. Even now I take such comfort in listening to "Butterfly" because it feels so much like a perfect closure to our relationship. We both reached out for something beautiful and wonderful, and crushed it because we didn't know how to take care of it. Or maybe it was a warning. Either way, I still love the song. Rivers absolutely was at the top of his game with "Butterfly" and I adore him all the more for it. |
