this whole song really reminds me of when they are trying to pass through Caradhras in the Fellowship of the Ring. Tolkien always borrowed from Norse mythology and culture so maybe the winds of Thor are referring to Caradhras, The Red Mountain. As for the snow there is a wicked bad blizzard that Sarumon sends on the Fellowship as they try to pass through. It's the path that no one goes because, well, no one goes there. The dogs of doom howling refers to the noises that they hear when on the mountain. possibly wargs. They never really do describe WHAT the noise was in the book but they harp on the fact that they can be heard from the paths above... just a thought, anyone have an opinion on it? |

i think it's about giving yourself fully to your endeavors. The captain burns the fleet so he knows that his soldiers will only look forward and give 100% because the option or fleeing has been crushed. It kind of shows the valor and pride that even in not accomplishing their mission to conquer their honor, valor and pride are still intact because the captain would rather face death than run away from a fight.. |

this is an awesome son because its about faith and how things don't always ("The tracks always give out") add up but you need to just give yourself fully to it ("it's a leap from the lion's mouth")
i love that phrase there's something vaguely familiar about it... |

this song is awesome. it seems so early thrice haha. it really reminds me of the line "rhetoric can't raise the dead" from artist in the ambulance. oneangrydwarf hit this song on the head with its meaning and warning of inactive words. in any way its pretty good. |

But I think that maybe all that's needed is some flint and hardened steel;
because I don't think that any one of them believes that the revolution's real...
probably one of my favorite quotes from this album.. this song is fantastic |

to me this song speaks about the persecution of christians. i may be (and probably am) wrong but the holy spirit is symbolized by fire. could a firebreather be one who spreads the message of god? just some food for thought. i love the chorus at the end.. great song allaround... GO TRICE!!! woot haha |

when i hear the soft chime like sound of some of this song it reminds me of the wonder i feel about the ocean. we know so little about it that it might as well be the face of a distant planet. the guitar part of this song kind of reminds me of the beautiful dangers of the open ocean. its a perfect harmony of reverence fear and curiosity we feel towards the ocean at least thats how it is for me |

my personal favorite of the four sonnets.. i love how it deals with man's pride and arrogance as well as its "supposed mastery" of an untameable element. i hate to bring religion into this but.. Water is gods tool to shape the earth, we realize this by the example of the Great Flood with Noah and all that stuff. Could dustin be alluding to the fact that the reason boats and fleets are sunk is that God is reminding us that he 1. has almighty power 2.is untameable? idk haha just something to think about... feel free to critique:) |

i agree sojurneyman i think it's about how everyone has become more or less the same.. that the love and friendship has faded away into an artificial type world where nothing has the meaning it once did.. this song totally creeps me out haha but it eerieness conveys this meaning of being alone while surrounded by people. which to me brings up the old saying "water water everywhere but not a drop to drink" except in this particular instance the water is a metaphor for the artificial personalities of the people that surround us and that no one has their true individuality... second comment so feel free to critisize :) |
