Cake – Bound Away Lyrics 14 years ago
d3bates, this is in response to your pondering over a need for another meaning other than the obvious, overt idea that CAKE spends a lot of time traveling. I imagine they are singing the song amongst a sea of other bands, musicians, record labels, fans, etc. who are also "bound away." It's an endless motion from city to city, the same "unknown individuals," always waiting and waiting (a recurrent theme with CAKE), and this feeling that they're all going to be dead in a "grave with pink flowers" by the time they get off the plane to their destination. The maritime, ballad-style of the music paired with the lyrics works very well for the song, also. It causes the listener to sway in agreement. This whole album has a pessimistic tone toward society, and this song certainly fits that tone. I think it's questioning WHY are we bound away? What is it we are waiting for where ever we are? Another therapeutic CAKE album to help endure and explain life's ever-changing pace.
