| System of a Down – Highway Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think the song is about time, and how it affects us all. He is singing about his way through life, and leaving other people on their different roads, which they have chosen. "I need, I feel the love You'd love to love the fear I never wanna be alone" - he is left alone, all of his friends have gone seperate ways. "The road keeps moving the clouds The clouds become unreal I guess I'll always be at home" - The time is passing no matter what, and the future is shaping into something different from now, but he is always in one place - his own. "Do you want me to try directing your night?" - With this he may be asking his friends to come with him. "An exit lights the sky The sky becomes complete Traveling hearts divine, dethroned I've forgotten too" - A part about separations of hearts (people), each one exits on his own road, and each one forgets everything eventually, including him. "Friction, lines, bumps The Highway Song complete" - Friction, lines and bumps represent obstacles in life, and Highway is life. "The purest forms of life" - Humans are that forms of life, cause they cant affect passing of time. "Our days are never coming back" - Their time together is over, and now they all must seperate. "Cannons of our time" - Cannons represent some memorable times which they spent together. |

The song is pretty obvious, but still complicated. It is related to the war where, let's face it, every day is lonely, and the "soldier's" (who sings this song) biggest fear is to lose his friend, that's why he says "IF you go/die, I wanna go/die with you", so the person he is singing to isn't dead, that is just his fear. And the last line just points how no matter what happened to that person, the soldier is glad HE survived that day, and in some way describes war completely - every person just looks after himself, every country about itself, and that is why wars start and go on. That is my opinion. |

What about the line "When I became the sun, I shone life into the man's hearts"? Maybe it can be understood like the God is the narrator, and he is sending the message to people about disorder and toxicity in the world. This song is actually very much like the song Forest, but in here the message from the God is more detailed, and focused on techonogy being the main reason why people are forgeting about the important things in life. And the "sleep" I think represents death, so all the time between "sacred silent and sleep" there is disorder, and we are just living our lives without saying anything. |

I couldnt agree more, but what interests me is the line "Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?" According to your theory, does this mean the facts that were hidden can easely be unlocked? If that is the thruth, why is Jesus not agreeing with this by asking WHY? As I understood, Jesus is angry in this song at God, his father, for hiding all the parts of the story. |

I agree with darrenr, it is a conversation between God and man (his child), and of course can be understood through the life of Jesus for catholics, cause what God said to him, he is obviously saying to all of us, and that is the world has become corrupted, and every man on earth should be his voice, just like Jesus was. It is pretty hard to understand each sentence in the song, cause every one caontains deep thoughts, but I think the idea was that God is sending a message to all of us. |
