I first heard this song in 500 days of summer and literally turned to my roommate a few seconds after it started playing and said, "I don't know what this is, but i love it". Yeah for me it captures loving when your "blood is still young". So carefree and manic crazy feeling not always thinking anything all the way through. I love cut copy too...good bands indeed. |

I hope I'm not the only one to ever comment on this haha. I was one of those kids who loved hellogoodbye in the very very earliest of beginnings when people considered them "indie" and not well known at all haha. Back in the EP/Cali only days. They were a favorite for a lot of us back then i think. Finally zombies came out and we all loved it but it was also popularity extraordinaire so fast. Que twelve year olds. Okay now fast forward like 3+ years. All of us who loved them as young music-whore high school kids are in college now. There is new indie music to love and HG is definately not "cool" to like as it once was, yet if you ever had a connection with this band you still secretly listen to them on your ipod when you're feeling happy go lucky or nostalgic. Now que this new EP.....years later.....we've all grown up....yet.....we listen........the first time i listened to the song "When we first met" i thought it was "ok", but would i ever listen to it? eh maybe if i was still 16. When i heard this song, i actually liked it. Like genuinely. A more mature sound. More mature song. It sounds and feels a lot different from the old hg but i still liked it and I was actually surprised about it. Good job hellogoodbye. As for the meaning? the part about the stars obviously reflects the fact that it seems to move so slow to us but its really moving at the speed of light. That's why it conflicts slow and swiftly. Also i think it could be about unrequited love and its just not going to work again. That is why they are never going "home" or to the way it used to be. |

The first time i heard this song was last november but i just kinda put it aside almost, i didn't REALLY listen to it you know, didn't pay attention to its beauty. then my friend put the funeral on a mix and i was reminded of this song and i went and listened to it again. and i really listened and i knew i felt the exact same way. i don't know if its about michelle but that makes sense, but its definately not about some girl who liked him in third grade that was probably jesse making a joke and you just did not catch on to whoever wrote that i don't want to go back to look at the user name. But yeah songs like this aren't really about a joke like that, songs like this are real and what you get when you write from the heart like someone else said. Maybe michelle maybe not, but definately about some one real important to him that he felt like completed him in a way. Oh and i don't think its sherri dupree either cause it talks about it like when they were kids so long ago. Definately someone important from the past that has affected his life all along. |

also just listening to it i swear like 2:30 in after the chorus and after it says are you love sick for it all? it says "look up", and then it repeats the chorus and this is more clear but it says "are you still in love with it all?, are you still in love with it all?", and then at the end it says at the end "i'm still in love with you." or thats what it sounds like anyways. |

yeah love just plain sucks sometimes. But i'm glad that this song is juxaposed with Transatlanticism so that you can remember how great it is sometimes. I'm going to write nothing new than the 252 comments before me haha but for me this song is similar to what SovietCommissar said about his experience, about how relationships when your still really in love with someone else just are vile and cheap and you realize it afterward, or during, whatever. Since this song leads in transatlanticism it is totally like Ben Gibbard is saying please come back to the person he really truly loves. He is done with fake relationships trying to get over the person he loves when he can't and tells her that he needs her so much closer in transatlanticism. SO COME ON! |
