Santigold – I'm A Lady Lyrics 13 years ago
You guys are all wrong. It's actually about her never truly feeling comfortable in her femininity (most tomboys are more comfortable in their masculinity than their feminity) "Ooh oh look so pretty, now you're just so sweet, But see how far you can get..." She's aware of how many women take advantage of their femininity, by playing the role of the pretty damsel in distress, but because she isn't that kind of girl she says it as metaphorical spitting, looking down at those women. So she's making something with what's in her head, by deciding she is a lady, she's made up her mind, embracing herself for what she is --a woman with a masculine mind.

Pete Yorn – Life On A Chain Lyrics 17 years ago
i feel like by saying he lives his life on a chain, it's like there are a million other links but none are more important than the other. and by saying they share the same last name, it's like she's in the same situation. and by waiting for life to begin and looking for the new thing, it's like feeling incomplete and you feel alone like no one truly understands you... but it's like she's there and always been there but he never never knew her or noticed. but then he didn't want to be with her and tried to do his own thing, but that didn't work. i think the whole song is him thinking in retrospective about how she was good for him and by the end he's come to the realization he loves her still. i'm not really sure though if this is plausible but i'm an aspiring writer, and in high school we had to evaluate poems the same way stanza by stanza
