I love this song :) Especially the chorus! And these lines in particular: 'The sinner and the saint That fight the battle within' |

This song is so beautiful. It's the quiet ones that get me the most... I was thinking about how some people say its from a girls point of view. and yes, it is sung by a girl, but I broke up with someone a few months ago because he didn't seem to like me much. I've found out since that he was absolutely shattered and did some pretty stupid things that week... So it could work equally well for guys. And what Hell Razor said about the guy singing that one line as well - I think you're right. It just made this song click for me even more. They're both heart broken but simply because they don't communicate, like me and my ex, they just stay that way.. Such a beautiful song |

| Missy Higgins – Dancing dirt into the snow Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
what Lex said about her not doing anything wrong, just dancing, I found curious. I thought about it a bit, and I think she's dancing because she wants people to think she's happy, has no troubles, and can just dance. But there's dirt in the snow under her feet. She's dancing to attract peoples attention to how 'happy' she is, so they won't notice the dirt in the snow, the pain she's hiding. She disguises her wound as an opal, something beautiful and amazing for people to wonder at. She uses fairy lights to make people look at her. She wants people to see HER, who she really is, rather than focusing on the bad things in her life. She's just pleading that someone will look at HER, and see HER, rather than the stuff she's going through. I think that song is about Missy saying look, I understand why you're doing this, you want people to see the real you, but its still not going to help you. The more you ignore all the bad stuff, the more you try to push through it or turn your back on it, the sooner you're going to crack and do something drastic. That's just a bit of what I think of this song, most of the rest has already been said by others. This song is sort of the opposite of an experience of mine, but it still applies. A few years ago I was very depressed and my friends would just tell me to smile. They wanted me to sparkle like an opal or fairly lights, and just distract them from the fact that I was hurting. I responded with rage, mostly to hide the fact that I was hurting, I pretended that there was nothing for me to cover up. I wanted someone to see ME, and want to help me because it was ME who was upset, not because some girl was depressed so hey! lets make her sparkle! Then we can ignore the situation. Sorry if that makes no sense, I'm not so good with words sometimes. Missy feels so much in her songs, you can hear it in her voice and even the melody, its hard not to get carried away :) |

| Missy Higgins – They weren't there Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| One other thing. The line 'I was lost and I was found, but I was alive and now I've drowned'. To me this means that she felt lost after her last relationship, then she got into this new relationship and she felt 'found' again. But it's just put her in a worse position, so before at least she was blameless and ok and 'alive', but now she's just losing herself, and 'drowning' with this new guy. So it may feel better, but really its not the best thing for her to be with him. | |

I believe this song starts with the person getting over a relationship, and maybe a friend is helping her. Then she gets into a relationship with that friend, and its just like the other and everyone's telling her to just get out because she's better off without him, but she can't. She cares about him too much and he has this power over her. The world is judging her for making the mistake of being with him, but he makes her feel free and away from the troubles of the world, and she can't resist that with him she can forget everything, and who are they to judge her for wanting to get away from the pain of it all? She's just waiting for people to judge her, because she knows they will, and tell her she's wrong, but they weren't there! They don't know what it was like or how hard it was to resist him. So to sum all that up, this song (to me) is about knowing the world will judge you unfairly, no matter how hard everything is. They still expect you to be perfect, and have good judgement, but sometimes its just too hard, and they judge you for that. My favourite song by Missy, so beautiful. And BohemianEagle is right, it is art. |

| Natalie Imbruglia – That Day Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I absolutely love this song!! I'm sorry to repeat, but it is so raw and emotional. I agree with Simplistic, its just like someone throwing down their thoughts but their thoughts and feelings are going so fast that it just comes out as this stream of words that somehow still make sense despite the sense of rambling. I love the beginning of the chorus: 'That day, that day I lay down beside myself In this feeling of pain, sadness Scared, small, climbing, crawling Towards the light' To me that really describes the desperate nights I spent last year, when I'd just lie there and feel such indescribable pain, but I just had to keep going and 'crawl towards the light'. A beautiful song, so much emotion in such simple words. |

| Missy Higgins – The Special Two Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I know a lot of people think this relates to a relationship, which I acknowledge it could, but to me it fits with a best friend. I had a best friend who I was losing touch with. She'd changed and I just didn't understand her any more. I know this song is about betraying someones trust, but I relate most to the line 'But I will fight for you/Be sure that I will fight/Until we're the special two once again' I did fight, but apparently not hard enough as we've now lost touch. Another thing I can relate to is the lines in the first verse 'When you're young you have this image of your life...' I'm at an age in my life we're I'm just realising that life isn't so easy as you imagine when you're a kid. I had this big plan for my life, and now I'm realising that you have to work really hard, and there's always unexpected complications. Anyway, I love the chorus in this song. The descriptions are so powerful and deep. But my favourite line is "Nothing cures the hurt you bring on by yourself, just remembering, just remembering how we were...' So simple and so powerful! One of her best songs |
