I, as an anarchist, find your post rather confusing (for it advocates peaceful resistance, what you described as what anarchists do, while going against anarchists). I don't know you, I don't know what your view of an anarchist is (I hope it's not an angst-filled teen). Anarchists simply oppose the exploitative structures of social hierarchy while advocating an equal, horizontal line of power where democracy takes the place of rulers and masters. Peace. |

100% correct, I study what he is talking about. This song is about the failure to produce communism by means of government, as seen in China (Maoism), Russian (Stalinism), etc. China's old (but still existent) punishment system is Reducation Through Labor, while they preach "communism". The Russian gulags where forced labor camps where criminals were sent to after they committed petty crimes. Rise Against, being anarchists (jumped the gun? not really), believe that communism is possible but governments (who are obviously unequal) cannot force equality. |

| Gogol Bordello – Not a Crime Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"It's not a crime, it's legal - perfectly natural" One of the most widely used arguments for the legalization of marijuana is that it's natural. Although I oppose the criminalization of pot, this argument is faulty (lots of things, weed not included, that are natural can harm you). This song is about marijuana. |

| MGMT – Weekend Wars Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Johannsen, you said "I love this song just as much as I adore MGMT. I cannot wait until they are one the radio every hour".. I can only speak for myself, but I think a lot of MgmT fans and I DON'T want them ruined on the radio.. Then the people who like songs JUST because they're played on the shitty Top 40 stations will "like" them, while ignoring their message of liberation, peace and love. |

| MGMT – The Youth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Ben Goldwasser and Andrew Vanwyngarden are modern day hippies, radicals -- they believe in peace, freedom and (free) love. The are siding with today's small portion of youth who are "flooding the streets with love, light and heat" (protest, love and rage) and "living, loving and sleeping together" (free love, a radical concept). The youth are starting to wake up and the revolution is returning. We are no longer conforming to society's and the government's "acceptable" standards, we're starting to express ourselves creatively. Check out hippieeit's comment and the 60's and 70's revolution. Peace, love, freedom and music. |

| It's a song that rubs the fact that the use illegitimate authority results in the creation of many socially and politically aware anarchists in the faces of hierarchs. | |
| The Nightwatchman – Flesh shapes the day Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"And broken Starbuck's glass Yeah, I support my troops They wave black flags They wear black masks" Tom Morello is a social anarchist. The black flag is the flag of the anarchists, which represents both the opposition to all oppression and the opposite of surrender. Anarchists wear both black masks and black (or red) bandannas at protests to protect themselves from police brutality (chemical attacks, gassing, spraying, etc) and surveillance. Anarchists have long opposed Starbucks, for its participation in the exploitation of coffee workers in third world countries, for its use of genetically engineered ingredients in their products and advertising in events that promoted the torture of animals. |
