Thursday – Turnpike Divides Lyrics 14 years ago
Geoff said at the show a couple weeks ago that this song is about when he moved back to New Jersey, about going home, presumably after separation from his wife.

This is the last song they've been playing for their last shows. I don't think there could be a more fitting end for such a true and genuine band

Thursday – Where The Circle Ends Lyrics 15 years ago
It's not "Incan desert ground"
It's "Incandescent ground"

and also it's not
"Bronze fist soldiers return to watch the twilight across the faces"
it's "Bronze foot soldiers return to march twilight across our faces"

Thursday – Stolen Guitar Lyrics 15 years ago
to me it sounded like he was saying "no one could steal your voice if you didn't use it"

of Montreal – Nonpareil of Favor Lyrics 15 years ago
This song, and this whole album, is certainly based on Georgie Fruit, but the songs are also definitely multi-dimensional and autobiographical, of course.

Should be "The whole attempt was shoddy", not "The whole attempt with shawty"

Thrice – Silver Wings Lyrics 17 years ago
To you saying the song isn't about God, it's foolish to brush off the obvious spiritual metaphors, especially when Dustin is a committed Christian.

"I Moved in you and stirred your soul to sing" Any Christian who writes a line like this sees the spiritual undertones, and embraces them.

In scripture, wind or air is very often symbolic of God, particularly the Holy Spirit. In fact, in the Greek New Testament, the word for the Holy Spirit is :pneuma: - which means air or wind. The Hebrew word used for spirit in the bible is "ruach" which literally means breath.

Mineral – Dolorosa Lyrics 17 years ago
It doesn't matter what he had in mind. The language, the tone is obviously Christian in nature. The Via Dolorosa is a street in the Old City of Jerusalem that marks the path Jesus walked on the way to his crucifixion. It's obvious that this song is about Jesus.

"Well, religion plays a huge role in my life, so of course it plays a huge role in my music. But whatever, you know? I don’t want to be perceived as a religious writer or something. It’s just part of my experience." - Chris Simpson

He's not saying he doesn't believe in Jesus Christ, he's just saying he doesn't want to be a poster boy for Christianity. There's no way this song can NOT be about Jesus

Grizzly Bear – Lullabye Lyrics 17 years ago
To me, the author is describing an evening where he had just recently broken up with his girlfriend. The "Chin up, cheer up. My love's another kind", to me, is saying that he wants her to be happy again and OK, and that he really cares about her.

This song has really been resonating with me, I just broke up with my girlfriend this past week and that's really what I'm feeling. It seems like a plausible interpretation, though!

Thursday – Sugar in the Sacrament Lyrics 17 years ago
Dude, the Catholic Church is composed of 1.2 BILLION people worldwide. Now, you can't just say "the catholic church in general does not have the best intentions" as a blanket statement. You can't blame the church for the actions of a few individuals. That's like saying all Muslims are evil for the actions of a few terrorists. That's hatemongering, and I'm sure that's not the message Geoff is trying to communicate here.

People assume that sexual abuse only happens in Catholic Churches. THIS IS FALSE. Sexual Abuse happens just as much as in protestant churches, it just goes unreported because the majority of protestant churches are autonomous and not part of a central network. Now I'm not saying abuse in Catholic churches isn't a problem, it's just that the institution as a whole shouldn't be seen as evil, especially when considering how much it does for the poor, the sick, the hungry, etc.
