| Also, the fact that she has a Chinese bird neck, and he has Chinese fingers, suggests they had a serious, serious emotional connection. The repetition references body parts (things you can't get rid of, that are essentially a part of you) and is really sad, actually. Whoever she is, the Speaker really loved her. | |

I've read several comments suggesting the GF is dead, but the grammar says she isn't: "Yours is a funeral I'd fly to from anywhere" suggests that it hasn't happened yet. "I'd" breaks down into "I would." Seems to me this song is about a Speaker whose Girlfriend left him for someone else. The fact that only the Speaker's smell remains at "your (her) house" suggests he isn't there anymore. Add in the ambiguous "two first names and ampersand" on the towel (which is a typical wedding gift), the image being given is that the Girlfriend's living with someone new in the house the Speaker used to share with her. He's quite open with his feelings on the subject: "oven gas" smell is an allusion to suicide. Gas ovens were a popular way for domestic housewives during the 40's-60's to kill themselves. So, our Speaker thinks she's made a mistake and hopes she's left miserable enough to want to die. Tack on the idea that she's only beautiful in "a fading and ancient painting" (their past relationship) and you've got one angry Speaker. Him mentioning her skinny neck does suggest he wants to strangle her; birds are also transient and fly away. All the business about Heaven and if she made it there or not... is a polite way of saying, "I'm gonna be amazed if you get there, you callous bitch." The chorus essentially builds on that, "All the money in the world wouldn't convince me to talk to you again or let you off the hook for what you've done to me. And when you die, I'm gonna come to the funeral to celebrate." The second verse is where the Speaker lets his guard down a little emotionally. In order to hate someone, you have to feel something deep for them. Even if it isn't love from the onset, they still affect you on a significant emotional level. He admits that her moving on (or infidelity) was just an annoyance at first, but later, he comes to realize it was actually something that could hurt him badly. So he shakes it out of his sock (i.e., life) and crushes it (i.e., her.) He burned the bridge as hard as he could to keep her from coming back. The line about her "perfect feet" does two things: acts as sarcasm for her "perfection," and also shows he still thinks she is perfect, which is why he can't be around her. All this emotional truth is undercut, though, by the chorus which plays again and acts a loud reminder that, no, actually, he's still furious with her and hopes she kills herself. A great song, really, if only because it expresses how everyone's felt at one time or another in a cool way. Love it <3 |

| Xiu Xiu – Apistat Commander Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I am pretty sure the lyrics are: "Wei Huai, could talk me down. Still sitting." Which adds to the hopelessness even more. Appestat is the part of your brain that controls hunger; apostasy (apostats) are people who renounce their faith, ultimate heretics in religious circles. Apistat might be Xiu Xiu's attempt to let it be both? Plus, given that the speaker is on a mountain, and there are Chinese names all around... I think this guy's a monk about to 86 himself, unless someone can stop him... which they don't/won't. Gotta love this band. | |

The first one is definitely: You say you wanted space, Well, I'm overdosing on the great escape, And I'm already so long gone. The other two are kinda toss-ups until they get their main website running again. |
