i think in the song, hes trying to find closure with the summer. In the summer, you feel like it is going to last forever, but in the end it dissapearins and is over before you're ready to go back to reality. The song also has that element of how a girl or even summer memories linger and stay with you, or become attached to place, ex. the beach with the life guard stand, long after the moment and the season are over. |

To me this song speaks not only about the end of a summer romance, but it also expresses the laziness and calmness a summer day can have in it. Just lying around, doing nothing except being together, and wishing that not only the day, but summer as well could last forever. |

alot of people are saying its uncharachsteristic of the counting crows, that is doesn't sound like them and it isn't something they would usually write about, and I agree with that. But I think thats what makes this song so great, is that it isn't typical of them, and love can do that to all people. Don't get me wrong I love the crows, but most of their music is on the sadder, more deeper side of things, where this song is expressing emotions of love in the most plain and simple ways. When your in love, it can catch you off guard- you don't want to fall in love - but it happens. Love makes you ridiclously happy,you forget about any problems it ever might of given you before. You go around with the biggest grin on your face for no reason at all, and thats what this song does to me! |
