Passion Pit – The Reeling Lyrics 16 years ago
"a girl who loves is like a precious glimpse, just like the settle in the foggy mist."

This song is an plea for help to a higher power.
"we dug these holes we crawled into now they're my home" seems to be a more poetic way of saying you dug your own grave, or buried yourself. The direction the human race does not coincide with what should be happening. He's asking and praying to a higher power because he cant change the world himself, thus "have i single opportunity?".

Passion Pit – Little Secrets Lyrics 16 years ago
This is about the pleasure of either drugs or love, most likely the latter. Another guess is the story or Samson of Delilah. It would explain "have you ever felt so strong", "the walls came crumbling", "this miracle is of ecstatic fright", etc. Unsure though.

Passion Pit – Moth's Wings Lyrics 16 years ago
"your mother's gone missing"

Laurel makes sense, since in Roman times a laurel was used as a crown. Therefore put down your sword and crown is relevant.

As for the meaning of the song, I think it is about someone the narrator knew who fell off, more specifically from pride. The narrator is okay with being the shoulder to lean on, but in pride the other does not feel the same, thus perceiving the narrator to be a "bastard". Once the other has run away, the narrator is, of course, in a better condition because he/she doesn't have to deal with the bullshit, but dizzily spinning because they have lost a friend or what have you.

The Mountain Goats – Elijah Lyrics 16 years ago
No, Crimeninja, that was a beautiful analysis. I also respect your curiosity and open-mindedness to things you don't subscribe to. After all, the gathering, expanding and understanding of knowledge is a respectable journey in itself. I also appreciate the break down of each part of the song. It helps people know the background knowledge and reveal how well-read JD really is. Kudos and keep it up!

P.S: I believe this to be one of the more elegant songs of tMG musically and lyrically, despite the tape-hissing in the background. The way he sings it is almost patient but resigned. The way his voice is on the verge of cracking gets me every time.

Black Kids – I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You Lyrics 17 years ago
Of course this is all interpretation, but I view the song from the perspective of a girl who likes the said boyfriend of another girl. The girlfriend asks the girl to teach her boyfriend how to dance, however, the girl refuses because she'd rather have the boyfriend dancing with her. That is what she means when she says "you are the girl I've been dreaming of.." meaning she wishes she was the girl with an intimate other "every since [she] was a little girl". Then again, she could have feelings for the girlfriend.
