"i heard there was a secret chord that david played, and it pleased the lord" Kind David was said to have discovered a language with which he was able to communicate directly with God and the Angels. (also referenced in the story of Faust) Besides that, I think most of you have a very good idea of what the song is about. Kind David did have a very close relationship with God which started to deteriorate after obtaining Batsheba as his wife. Love/lust overtaking someones moral convictions and dis-obeyment of the first commandment, "there is no other God but me", he put her ahead of his relationship with God and payed for it. "she tied you to her kitchen chair, she broke your throne and she cut your hair" Hair was a symbol of power in those days. (the queen of sheeba?) Batsheba did not really love David, she simply wanted her son to become the heir, so basically she took his power. |

| I was at a concert of theirs a few months ago, and after introducing the song, Rick White said "I used to smoke my doobies back there" so it is not not about getting stoned. | |
