I have been reading this site for many years and never posted; but I wanted to post my thoughts on this song for some reason. On another MM song, someone said you had to have been there to know what the song is about. That is how this song is. I think it is a conversation he is having with himself. He is laying down, thinking about how life is meaningless in the end; and no matter where you go, the earth is a coffin; the air that surrounds us is a coffin; your body is your own coffin, since you will die in it; and asks is our coffin ever after, meaning is there an afterlife. He is talking with the other side of his personality. He asks if he really believes this negative side of himself; and says that he wants the negative side to just be dead, instead sleeping in the back of his mind. Does he believe what he is saying? Yeah right now, laying on the floor he does (while in this mood); but not often. I think the blow that has been softened is realizations made about death and living. About how he is already in his coffin, so he just gets on with living life. The Ying and Yang of it all. What difference does anything make if everything is meaningless? Combined with, so what if life is meaningless? What does that matter? Mine as well get on living since you are already in your coffin. If it is true that he wrote this alone while on some nice herbs; it makes sense. If you have that sort of personality that would think about stuff like that; especially when alone and thinking in the mountains when he is high. But anyway, everyone else has interesting comments too; and I've probably read some of them multiple times over the years. So this is just another interpretation to add to the list. |
