Family of the Year – Hero Lyrics 12 years ago
I agree with dancing13, but don't want to.

I prefer thinking of this guy as a reluctant superhero. He's stuck in a situation like Captain America, he wanted to 'fight with everyone else' in the war but is now a put on a pedestal wearing a mask and at the forefront of a parade. He just wants to 'walk with everyone else'...all the other soldiers.

In verse 3, he's more like Clark Kent (with guitar in hand.) He goes to his 9-to-5 to pay the rent and no one knows he's out saving the American Dream at other hours. Not because he wants to, but because he feels he has to since he has super powers.

Elton John – Levon Lyrics 16 years ago
"Believe on"

A couple people said this already. And it's obvious when you listen to this live version starting at 4:25:

I think it touches on the typical father/son relationship of the son trying to go experience something different while the father works the grind.

I also see the commentary on the time. It was almost like imagination was dead in the 40s and 50s when Levon came of age. All he cared about was making sure Jesus wasn't a pauper like him. But Jesus grew up a flower child, in a time when imagination was really celebrated. Even if god was dead, there was still something to believe in.

The Mountain Goats – Song for Dennis Brown Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree it's about the world moving on, but in a sadistic way. A hero to many dies, and the cops are busy being bastards. A spokesman for the poor dies, but they still have to dumpster dive to eat.

Kind of a "change doesn't happen." For all Dennis Browns words meant to the Jamaican people, the world is not a better place, and never will be.
