side note: this song is amazingly beautiful. ben harper is a lyrical genius. i think this song can be taken from a different aspect than a breakup. i once almost lost a friend, and when i found this song, i started sobbing uncontrollably because it perfectly defined every possible emotion i was going through. dead seriously, i hated looking in a mirror. and i dreaded the sun coming up every morning. and i asked myself why it mattered because i had other friends. and of course i fought myself back saying how she made me so happy. ben harper is a genius. i swear he reads minds. this is my absolute favorite song<3 |

haaa, love this song. alright jewel can totally still be a christian and sing this song. the lyrics are a sarcastic attack on super religious people who use religion as a scapegoat to do things like be judgmental. "They say abortion will send you straight to a fiery hell That is if the fanatics don't beat Satan to the kill" it is also a comment on pop culture in general. "having my picture in a magazine makes me special how special are you?" i love this song. in no way however is she attacking religion as a whole and in no way is she saying that jesus doesn't exist. |

i think it's fairly evident that in this song she is singing about losing her virginity. i think it's about college, or a summer with some roommates, and she'll always remember it. |

there is something so ridiculously beautiful about this song. i listened to it once with one of my bestfriends. we were lying on her bed while the sun rose. and even though i had heard it a million times before, i got goosebumps all over and was struck with the profoundness of the lyrics. the harmony and orchestra-like quality of the music after "i'm not sorry there's nothing to save" almost says more than the entire song. it is beautiful and it honestly makes me want to cry. it is a true artist when a symphony alone can bring such emotion. |
