I think I might be in love with SoKo. This song is a wonderful cheer-up, and it's impressive to know that she's writing in a second language. |

Jesus, I love the beautiful vignettes that Stuart creates about these young, touching, misfits ad the worlds they inhabit. Across all the B&S album, I find the most moving characters and stories. |

| Sufjan Stevens – All the Trees of the Field Will Clap Their Hands Lyrics
| 16 years ago

Welcome to an age of postmodern criticism, dear. No longer do we need to stick to the Formalist conventions of reading a work in terms of some kind of inherent 'underlying meaning'. Art is subjective, by its very nature, and it's the relationship between text/piece and the listener/audience that gives meaning, building, of course, on what the artist had in mind when creating it. But isn't it horribly moral-high-horse-esque to say that the artist alone has access to some kind of absolute truth, sweetcheeks?
Wake up. |

| Andrew Bird – Skin Is, My Lyrics

God, it's always so interesting to read everyone's interpretations of songs on this site, especially with artists like Andrew who tell such open and malleable stories.
I always heard the now famous door-slamming line as a negative message - someone feeling from the narrator after a fight, although perhaps logically this makes less sense in the context of the rest of the song. At any rate, it's a wonderful song. |

FishiesWillLaugh, I don't think that that is a 'damning view' of religion at all, it's just Felix's personal take, but he seems to agree that everyone can do what they choose, 'make their own way'.
In this song it feels like Felix is taking an inventory of all his traits, all the little things that make him who he is.
I love it! |

The image this song creates, of Felix (was it he who wrote this one? I'm not sure...) and little sister, big happy messy families in the Australian sun in summer, joyful and loving and it's just wonderful. |

| Angus and Julia Stone – Soldier Lyrics

@gimmeblues, that's an interesting take on the song, but I interpret it differently, at a more literal level. A girl (Julia's character) is so afraid and insecure, and meets this boy who she is infatuated with, but the fear again raises its ugly head. I think overall it's a happy message though, with him inspiring her to take action, andd control of her life. |

I read this as discussing either unrequited love,or a relationship that has faded and is slowly dying. While Julia's persona is still clearly besotted with the male, while he is cold and doesn't put any effort into the relationship. But I agree,Julia's voice live can break hearts. |

This is a beautiful song, painting an image of an idyllic marriage that so many of us dream of.
Angus and Julia wrote this for the wedding of their friend, and it must be the best gift that could be given...
Saw it live at West Coast Blues & Roots, these artists live is not something to be missed. |

I, too, interpret this song as making a statement about the male dominance in our music industry, but it could be open to a wide range of readings, as many of the above comments have pointed out. Patience's voice on this song is simply gorgeous, and it must be one of my favourites off this album. |

I think this is such a beautiful song about an imagined motherhood of Patience's, it paints such a sweet picture of the love of a mother for her child, and leaves me feeling wonderful. |

The Grates have spoken about this being a leaving school song, and that's the strongest message I take from it. It's a wonderful track, and their new album is, I think, a very interesting take on their style. I am very impressed. |

| The Panda Band – Ghosts Have the Best Time Lyrics

This song was written about Patience Hodgson (see first line), the singer in the Australia band The Grates. The Panda Band boys went on to become good friends with The Grates, and I believe they've toured together. This song is describing the mad and inspiring way she performs onstage, dancing and singing and involving the audience, and how the Panda Band admire her and the rest of the band. |

This song, by one of Perth's most promising groups, paints such an accurate reflection of our city, an explanation of Perth for the outside world, the feeling of isolation, stillness, and the integration of the beach into our communal mentality. |

@superduke, Kier Nuttall isn't an 'unknown song writer', he's Kate's fiancé and guitarist, and a key member of the band. I met him, and he's a great guy, I hope the two of them have a long and beautiful life together ahead of them. |
