| When he says "Is that alright? Give my gun away when it's loaded;" I think he is asking if it okay to give his heart/love away to another woman when he is most vulnerable. It is like he is justifying the cheating although he knows deep down it is wrong. Although he may love his wife, he is having this emotional affair with the other woman. That is what I envision when I hear this song. | |

| I am very surprised that nobody has commented on this yet. I first heard this song on rescue me and I had to find out who sang it just because the voice and lyrics are so powerful. I think it does a great drop in illustrating a lost relationship between a father and child. You can almost put yourself in the writers situation | |

I think that the song is mainly about coping with any tragic event in your life and learning how to move on. I also see how some can interpret it as a relationship song. Especially the lyrics "May no man's touch ever tame... May no man's reigns ever chain you...And may no man's weight ever defray your soul." However, I don't think it is literally about a man holding you back or being controlling. I think anyone can create their own story behind any song. And as for the clouds Just let them roll Roll away, roll away<---this can be referring to learning to let go and accept what has happened. We cannot turn back time....we are only human. |

orig. from Bulletproof cupid: "Leave me out with the waste This is not what i do" --They are disappointed in themself. They are hurting someone who doesn't deserve it. They have something perfect and want to be thrown away because they have feelings for someone else.-- "It's the wrong kind of place To be thinking of you It's the wrong time For somebody new" --They are with someone and have feelings for another. It's not the right time for another person because they are already comitted to someone who loves them-- "It's a small crime And i've got no exuse" --They didn't want to have these feelings for another person, it just happened. They have no excuse because they cannot change how they feel-- "Is that alright? Give my gun away when it's loaded" --They are wanting to know if the affair is alright to one another, both partners are cheating to be with each other. Give my gun away when it's loaded basically is saying they have so much with this other person and to give it away would emotionally kill the other person-- "Is that alright? If you dont shoot it how am i supposed to hold it" --If they do not leave their partners how are they supposed to be together. How can they have a relationship (the gun) when there is another person (the bullet). They do not want to hold a loaded gun anymore-- "It's the wrong kind of place To be cheating on you" --Their partner is good to them and they feel so unfair becaue they are cheating on them-- "It's the wrong time but she's pulling me through" --The person they are having the affair with is the true person they love. Though they are with someone else this other person is the one that is pulling them through life-- This is how I interupted the song. Reguardless the lyrics are really powerful. The man in the song has formed feelings for someone else even though he is in a committed relationship. It may be that it started out as an emotional affair and then became more serious. When SHE says "its the wrong kind of place to be thinking of you" it is the voice of the woman he is having the affair with. She knows that it is wrong and feels guilty; hence her saying "leave me out with the waste"--she feels crappy about what she is doing. "Give my gun away when its loaded" can be referring to both of them wanting to resist temptation but its too difficult because they are undeniably attracted and feel connected to one another "If you don's shoot how am I supposed to hold it"--If no partner is taking action in making the awful situation better, how are they going to be happy? HE then gos on to say "its the wrong kind of place to be cheating on you" which clearly shows the guilt he feels for the affair he is having with the other woman. When he says "its the wrong time, she's pulling me through" he could be referring to the way this other woman tempts him. |
