Yeah I'd see her when the days got colder On those days when it felt like snow \ it could be that their relationship together was in the winter, or that their relationship itself was so cold, with no feelings. You know I even think that she stared like you She used to just stand there and stare \ still he tells his new girl about his last one, and he finds a lot of things that reminds him his last girlfriend. maybe that's why he wants this new girl - because she reminds him his last. And roll her eyes right up to heaven And make like I just wasn't there \ i guess that he means that his last girlfriend was dreamy, and she thought about many things but him. And she used to fall down a lot \ fall down i think means that this new girl he found was depreesed all the time. That girl was always falling Again and again And I used to sometimes try to catch her \ he tried to help her. he tried to make her happy. But never even caught her name \ i gotta say that i wasn't sure about that sentence, but maybe he means that he was so into helping her, that he didn't knew her name or something... And sometimes we would spend the night Just rolling about on the floor \ they were messing around, and playing fulish games with each other. And I remember even though it felt soft at the time I always used to wake up sore... \ the relationship was good - soft at the time - but in the ended they always fought, and it ended up sour. im not sure about my meaning to this song, it's just what i think, and i haven't find yet something that sounds better. |

i agree with Aniland about the meaning of this song. when i heard this song in the first time, it was in the live version (which is actually better than the studio one.) and this song made me cry. it's the most powerfull song that i have ever heard. |

till i read the comments that said that this song is acutally a sad song, i didn't think about it like that. well, actually the last sentence "it's a perfect day to throw back your head and kiss it all goodbye" always sounded weird to me. it didn't sound as happy as all this song sounded to me. so now after i read all the comments here is my new opinion about this song: this song is basiclly about two lovers that have troubles in their relationship. the girl says that "it's much too late" but the boy triest to convince her that it's never too late, and that they can go over any obsitcals. i think that he tries to convince himself too. i think that inside he's depreesed but he loves that girl so he wants to make her think that everything is ok. the end is pretty sad "it's a perfect day to throw back your head and kiss it all goodbye". i guess that he commeted a suicide because she left him, or that he just wasn't happy anymore. there are times that this song makes me wanna " tear up the windows, walls, stairs, and floors- all at the same time. " like ILOVELIFE said. but there are times that it just make me wanna jump and dance, and sing it outloud. it's a great song. |

I agree with the theory about the affair. I think that these two have other boy\girlfriends, that they don't love, that they're with them just because it's safe or something like that, and they have the lover that makes them feel alive. - I called you after midnight \ maybe he calles her late because he wanted his girlfriend to fall asleep. Then ran until I burst \ he ran the fast he can so no one will se him, or so he'll have more time with her. I passed the howling woman \ im not sure what that "howling woman" means. maybe it's like his girlfriend that if she'll see him with other woman it will break her, but he don't mind. he loves that girl so he'll hurt his girlfriend but be with his lover. And stood outside your door We walked around a lake And woke up in the rain \ everytime that i hear this sentence it makes me think that the rain is their tears. so i think that maybe their sad that they woke up, and their night together is over. And everyone turned over \ it could be that people knew about that affair, but they just turned their back to it, because they didn't want to be part of it, but still didn't want to ruin it. Troubled in their dreams again \ they felt bad about that affair. that these people cheated their boy\girlfriends. Visiting time is over \ their time together was over And so we walk away \ and they had to say goodbye and go back to their origial boy'girlfriends. And both play dead then cry out loud \ "we both play dead" means that when they with their original boy\girlfriend's want to have sex with them, they just say that they tired or something like that, so they won't sleep with them, and it's like playing dead. "them cry out loud" means that they cry because maybe they feel bad that they make their boy\girlfriend think that they love him\her which is not true, or maybe they are having sex with their original boy\girlfriend and than cry because they love someone else, and don't want to sleep with anyone else but him\her. Why we always cry this way? \ they ask themselves why they keep this relationship if they love someone else. I kissed you in the water \ he kissed her when they both cried. And made your dry lips sing \ "dry lips" could be metaphore for her to be a sad person, quiet person, maybe even "dead" person, and when she's with him, and when he kisses her she come back to life (he made her dry lips sing). My meaning of this song - I love it All these games we play I close my eyes, you run away \ In this sentence I think he means like they play "hide and sick" or something, but then there's this sentence- I'm sure I asked you to stay But now you're gone \ which means that she left her. and it makes you think about the last sentence, and maybe it means that he try to look after her so she won't leave him, but then when he colse his eyes for one second, she run away - leave him. Today I feel a gray pulse in my head \ he was an optimistic person, but now after she left him, he's starting to be pessimistic. I turn off the lights and crawl into bed \ he hides in his bed in the dark. I try to think of sunshine \ he tries to think about happy things But my body goes wet with the first crash of thunder \ but he just can't be happy withought her. I think that the thunder is like the sky is crashing, and the rain startes (and when it rains it like the sky's crying) and so his body is wet because it makes him cry too. And I don't think I can know anyone but you \ when he says "know" I think he means that he can't be with someone else. He can't kiss or touch someone else. That's for sure! When it gets to four It's my turn to go \ Maybe he thinks that he can get over her, and he says "It's my turn to go" as if he now can be with other women, and it's his turn to be with someone else. Oh, the kiss! \ he kisses this new woman So alcoholic and slow \ this sentence can be two things. one, this kiss was actually pretty good... two, maybe the kiss was alcoholic because he was drunk when they kissed, because when he's sober he always thinking about the woman he loves and he can't really be with other woman. Maybe she wanted to sleep at his house, and maybe have sex, but he tells her that he can't. I don't think I can love \ here he says LOVE. Now after he tried to be with other girls he know that he really loves her. anyone but you, dear \ he wants only her. and here he calls her "dear". That's for sure! The upstairs room is cool and bright \ the upstairs room can be the place above. like a place that is near to heaven or something. or maybe they have memoris from this upstairs room. We can go up there in summer and dance all night \ he offers her to be with him. But not actually be - kiss and have sex and all that, just hang out with him. just dance. eventually she don't want him back, and he's just the ghost from her past. But still, he loves her, and can't be with anyone else but here. It's a sad song. I love it. |

I don't think that there's to much to say about the meaning of this song. It's pretty obvious. But anyway, I'll write what's I think the meaning is- Rest your head \ I think he says to her "Don't let anything bother you right now when you're with me. Just clean your head - rest your head". Oh! just put it outside \ put everything that bothers you away-outside. All wrapped up in ribbons - I think he tells her that this perfect moment - this night, this dream, this time... and their love (that died) is wrapped up in ribbons. The night, The dream, The time love died \ this night, this time that they were together. that moment was like a dream, but then the love died. We pushed it in our mouths \ they didn't talk about it. They just kepd seeing each other like everything is okay, and nothing's wrong, but they both know that their love is dead. Pushed it deep inside All wrapped up in ribbons \ I already talked about the "Wrapped up in ribbons" above. The night The dream The time Love died \ And I think that in the end, their love is dead and they actually soped seeing each other, because they figured out that they can't be like this. it's not working when there's no love.
