| Beck – Chemtrails Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I've been listening to this song, and this album, a lot in the past week. First of all, Beck is a lyrical and musical genius. Who would ever have thought that the guy who burst onto the scene with the smart@ss anthem of "Loser" would go on to write such profound and beautiful songs as this one, and so many others? (Volcano, on this album alone) As for the meaning of this song, I look at the "vapor trails" angle more than "chemtrails", and it relates to the transitory nature of this life. People and things come and go from our life so quickly that all we can do is sit back and watch the contrails, like watching jets fly by in the sky. This could be life beginning and ending, or relationships beginning and ending. When we are young, it seems like people and things will last forever. As we get older (I'm about Beck's age), we realize how quickly people and situations in our life come and go. All we can do is sit back and watch the vapor trails, and realize we are but vapor trails to other people. In that all, do we gain any real understanding? "All I can take from these skies is fog" Or do we simply, finally realize that the only certainty is the passing of the jets? "And all I can see in this light: a boat sinking" This line seems to indicate the certain end of our life as all we can really depend upon. This is some seriously profound and heavy stuff for a "pop singer". Have I mentioned that Beck is a genius? |

| Brad – The day brings Lyrics | 17 years ago |

"Gather around and see what the day brings see what makes you laugh and see what makes you sing" See the beauty in life. Can't see it yet? Look harder, because it's there. A simple song, and simply perfect. |
