lol I just realized I left a few of those blank (or rather with asdas) :P haha I couldn't figure those lines out at the time and forgot to go back and fix that. So anyway, here's those lines: "Thank god for Mom and Dad for sticking two together 'cause we don't know how" I think he's saying at least we have some role-models to base our relationships on because it's not something we can figure out on our own. "You think you've got it oh, you think you've got it, but got it just don't get it til there's nothing at all" He's saying that you might think you have love, but you can't realize what love is until you have lost it. "We get together oh, we get together, but seperate's always better when there's feelings involved" He's saying that you can enter a relationship, but in the end it's easier to be separate because then feelings won't be hurt. |

I think Andre wrote this song as a revelation of how stupid mass media is and how any song with a catchy beat can become huge. This is really prevalent in the music video. At the very beginning, his manager comes into his dressing room and is telling him how he better not mess up this show. And then when they start performing, the crowd is roaring during the whole song. But his manager doesn't care about the lyrics, he just cares that he makes him money. And the crowd doesn't care about the lyrics, they just care that it's Outkast. I never realized the deepness of these lyrics until Obadiah Parker covered it and I think that's how Andre intended for it to be; a song with strong lyrics, but he knew nobody would appreciate them. Anyway, here's my interpretation: "My baby don't mess around because she loves me so, and this I know for sure" I think this line can be interpreted two ways: seriously or ironically. But it seems like he's in denial about how she might not really love him and really isn't sure whether shes being loyal, or not, but doesn't want to admit any doubt. This speaks a lot about human nature in relationships. We don't want to even think about the possibility that someone we're with doesn't love us. "But does she really wanna, but can't stand to see me walk out the door" And here's where he's beginning to realize his doubt. He's asking himself "does she really love me or does she just feel obligated to because she doesn't want to see me leave and then end up alone?". "Don't try to fight the feeling because the thought alone is killing me right now" Now he's snapping back into his denial and doesn't want to fight his feelings for her and even the thought of not being with her is killing him. "Thank god for Mom and Dad for sticking two together 'cause we don't know how" asdas "You think you've got it oh, you think you've got it, but got it just don't get it til there's nothing at all" asdas "We get together oh, we get together, but seperate's always better when there's feelings involved" asdas "If what they say is 'nothing last forever', then what makes love the exception" I think this line, again, speaks about human nature in relationships. Most relationships follow the same pattern of saying "oh, we'll be together forever", but if we always say nothing last forever, then why should love be any different? "So why, oh why are we so in denial when we know we're not happy here" In this line, he actually mentions denial. This is his finally realization of his denial and he's finally accepting it. He's saying "why do I deny that this relationship is bad if I'm not happy?". "Y'all don't want to hear me, you just wanna dance" This is what I referred to at the beginning. He knows they don't care about the lyrics he's singing, they just want another hit song to "dance" to. "Don't want to meet your daddy, just want you in my caddy, don't want to meet your momma, just want to make you mine, just being honest" I think here he's criticizing the way the most guys look at women. They don't want to get into anything serious with them, they just want to screw them. And I must agree with him, he is being honest. "Alright now fellas now what's cooler than being cool? Ice Cold" I think the "Ice Cold" part is referring to himself because the beginning of the music video refers to him as Andre "Ice Cold" 3000 (it's like he's saying "whats cooler than being cool? being me". He's saying that people view him as "cooler than cool" because he's famous, but he just wants to be able to be taken seriously as an artist. "Ok now ladies we gonna break this thing down in just a few seconds here now don't have me break it down for nothing. Now I wanna see y'all on y'alls baddest behavior lend me some sugar, I am your neighbor. Shake it like a Polaroid picture" This is another way of him saying that people don't respect real music anymore. In the video, the camera turns to face him playing the drums and he gives the camera a look like "what the fuck? are these people really this stupid?". And then if you think about it, what's the one part of the song everyone remembered? "Shake it like a Polaroid picture". The dumbest part of the song is the one everyone remembers. A few things about the video is that there's a coffin the middle of everyone. I think this symbolizes how music is dead and all we have now is meaningless shit that makes money. He also plays all the members of the band in the video and I think each one represents him in a different way. The singer is his love of being famous and it's really shown by how he dances and stuff. The bass player is kinda his cool side/ladies man side. The piano player is his realistic self who doesn't let fame goes to his head. The drummer is the side of him that's fed up with the media and the direction music is headed in. And the acoustic guitar player is his chill, go-with-the-flow side. But that's my take on it. Lemme know what y'all think. |

I agree with lolipopoman. The Greenskeepers wrote it for GTA:IV and it is about Niko, but I think it's more about his anger towards Roman for dragging him to America with his lies. Here's my breakdown of it: "I wanna shoot you down now for the things you did": Niko's pissed at Roman for lying to him. "From far away I came, got away from seeing red": Niko came all the way from Yugoslavia to get to America and spent seven months on a ship. The "seeing red" part refers to the Red Army and the war he fought in his home country. "I came a long way to see you, Such a long way to see you I came a long way to see you, Now I wish you were dead, wish you were dead": Again, Niko came a very long way to see Roman, but is furious by all the lies Roman fed him to get him to America. "Such a long way to see you, with a gun to my head Wanna shoot you down for the things you said": Soon after Niko arrives, he gets wrapped up in crime and violence and quickly makes many enemies who want to kill him. . . and he's still pissed at Roman for getting him involved with all this. "Got me on the run, loaded up my gun, Blowing up the spot, hiding cuz I'm hot Fire is my friend, marking where I've been, Committing every sin, and do it all again": This verse shows a lot of what the meaning behind GTA is: Run from the cops, load up your gun, blow stuff up, hide from the cops, commit every crime, and then start it over. "Be on the lookout for the amber waves of grain, (Heading for your street) The green lady moved away and changed her name, (Feel my pain)": I think this is saying how a lot of things about America are over exaggerated. Their saying to look for the "amber waves of grain", (a reference to the classic song "America the Beautiful"), because they don't see it. And "the green lady" is none other then the Statue of Liberty. They're saying that liberty in America has been gone for a while and that it has disappeared. "Now I just want to leave you": Niko wants to leave America. "Feel my pain, coming up from the sewer, To the house on the hill, I'm the boss of all bosses, Got a license to kill, take to your own love If the truth be told, I'm in Liberty City and I'm out of control I'm out of control I'm in Liberty City and I'm out of control I'm out of control I'm in Liberty City and I'm out of control": This is talking about Niko and Roman's rise to power in Liberty City. That's my take on it. Hope it helps. =) |
